Meet Taylor Moskowitz

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Taylor Moskowitz a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Taylor, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

Imposter syndrome is something I am still overcoming in my career! It’s unfortunately part of being an artist, you always overanalyze your work and never think it’s enough. With the support and love from friends, family, colleagues and other artists it helps keep the imposter syndrome at bay!

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am a tattoo artist at Battlefront Tattoo Co. in Englishtown, NJ! I dabble with many forms of tattoo styles such as American traditional, blackwork, fineline, color & black and grey! The one tattoo style I want to continuously improve and grow in is American Traditional. It’s been around for many decades and is well known for its bright and vibrant colors and lasts a lifetime! Anyone that see’s American Traditional tattoo art knows who it’s created and that’s something I am trying to achieve. I want people to look at my tattoos and know it’s mine just by the uniqueness of it and how it stands out from others! American Traditional art is something that will continue to overpower other tattoo styles just because of how versatile it is and how well it ages!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The most impactful skills I had in my journey was discipline, diligence, and patience. I pushed myself even when things were not working in my favor. Learning the process of tattooing taught me so much kindness and patience within myself and my growth! I started to understand that good things take time and if I genuinely wanted to succeed as a tattooer I had to put 110% into it! Tattooing has helped me rebuild confidence and self esteem within my art and that good things take time. The journey of being a tattooer was definitely a hard one but overcoming it and seeing the progress along the way makes it that much more worth it to pursue!

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?

The ideal client would be the ones that constantly hand me challenges into helping my growth and portfolio as a tattooer. The clients that always accept and appreciate my feedback and advice in the most appropriate tattoo for them. My ideal client would be the one who look at my art and take it as it is. Who love it more than I do and see how beautiful my work could be and are proud to walk around with it on their body forever.
