We were lucky to catch up with Taylor Onze recently and have shared our conversation below. Taylor, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
Great question! I first wanted to start off by saying thank you so much for having me, I am so excited and honored to be a part of this today! As far as creativity goes, I have always been a creative person. Even as a young kid I would gravitate towards the creative side of things like dance, choir, band, photography, pottery, writing… the list goes on. It’s in my blood and I’ve embodied it throughout my whole life, and even to this day. As a content creator and jewelry business owner, I am lucky enough to still get to express my creativity every single day throughout my work and social media outlets, which is pretty cool if you think about it. When I think of creativity, I think of it as a form of self expression. Being creative is a way to escape, feel something, challenge oneself, or even relax one’s mind. Creativity is essential to maintaining a healthy and fulfilling life, and that is why I think it is so important to keep it alive, no matter who you are or what you do.
For me, creativity means doing things that I am passionate about and that inspire me. These include activities like creating vision boards, singing, spending time outside in nature – anything that makes me feel free, calm, and happy, allows me to be creative. When I was little, I used to collect beads with my childhood best friend and we would spend hours, and I mean HOURS, just playing, creating, and making the most random things. It’s so crazy to look back and realize that it has led me to where I am now, owning my own jewelry business. Being obsessed with photography as a kid has also had a huge impact on my social media career, aka, taking tons of photos on the daily. Creativity is such a key factor in my life and I believe it is so important for us as humans to all have some sort of creative outlet in any way, shape, or form!
I will admit, there are times where I hit a creative block and am feeling unmotivated or just uninspired. I’ve found the best way to get through this obstacle is doing things that get me motivated and IN-spired. I just try to follow my passions, keep an open mind, and listen to my intuition. You know, all the things that get the juices flowing. In social media and online businesses especially, there are endless ways to get inspired. Whether it’s in photo, video, mood boards, blogging, or vlogging, there are so many types of content out there to create. It can feel overwhelming at times when facing a creative block, but I always tell myself to just start SOMEWHERE. Regardless of what it is, I always strive to express myself and be creative in multiple different ways.
Creativity shows up in our lives every single day, in every way, shape, and form. Whether it’s with food, dance, music, designing your home, writing, reading, exploring – our creative senses are always tingling! Everyone’s creative outlets are different, and that’s what makes us all so unique and special. Doing things that I am passionate about and inspire me is how I keep my own creativity alive.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Of course, my name is Taylor Onze and I am a 26 year old fashion AND travel blogger/content creator and jewelry business owner. That is and has been my full time job for the past two years. What I do most is create all different forms of content online to help inform, inspire, and teach others all about personal style, as well as travel guides on where to go and what to do there. As I mentioned earlier, my small online jewelry business, Taylor Soul Designs, is also one of my biggest passions I love to share with the world. I create jewelry of all kinds, but especially with gemstones and pearls that I infuse with Reiki, a healing energy, allowing every piece to carry a ton of power. As one can imagine, I have a pretty busy schedule!
I wasn’t always a blogger though. I started off in the corporate world and quickly realized it wasn’t for me. After leaving that job and facing the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic during that time, I was given the perfect opportunity to figure out my true path. Fast forward to today, I now work for myself running two businesses, pursuing a career that makes me happy and excited to wake up every morning and do what I love.
My main focus right now is mostly blogging. I am focused on helping others get a better idea of their personal style, and how to build their closets with basics and personality pieces that elevate their wardrobes, look good on their body types, and make them feel confident inside and out! On top of that, I like to be a great resource for those who love to travel and want to get the best experience out of their trips. I recently hit a pretty big milestone and saw some pretty big growth in my online audience which, obviously, is a KEY factor in creating a successful blog. I am so excited to have welcomed many new friends of all sizes and ages and cannot wait to share more with everyone, so be sure to follow me along because I have a ton more blogs and videos in the works!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Ah yes, looking back, I know that I have come such a long way from where I started just a few short years ago. I would say the three qualities that were most impactful in my journey were staying consistent, staying motivated, and not giving up. Success is a roller coaster ride and no one gets it perfectly on the first try. There are going to be ups and downs and the only way to move forward is to keep pushing through. Obtaining these qualities is what kept me on track and got me to where I am now.
My advice for folks who are just starting out is: JUST DON’T GIVE UP. The breaking point is always the turning point. Stick to your goals and stay focused. Implement practices that are going to keep you on track and motivated. Surround yourself with others who are going to lift you up and help you get to where you want to be. It’s all about trial and error and finding what works best. Even if you are feeling unmotivated or like you don’t know where to go next, tap back into your creative side and brainstorm better ways to improve!
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
