We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Taylor Ricks. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Taylor below.
Taylor, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
I keep my creativity alive by doing simple stuff for myself. I go on walks, workout, read, draw, look at inspiration, stuff like that. I try my best basically; that’s all that I can do.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a photographer and graphic designer. I recently just graduated from university and have my bachelor’s degree in art, majoring in visual communication design and minored in communications. With all these skills I have developed throughout school and self taught practices, I would like to take my brand up a notch and simply take over the world. I joke often with my mom that I’m developing an evil plan to take over the world. Which I am, but really the creative, design, photography industry. I am always working on something or being inspired by something to create.
But as for right now I am looking for a full time job to further develop my skillsets and to have a way of expressing myself, even if there’s restrictions. One day I do know I will have my own everything and will be able to fulfill my plan.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
My advice really to others is to keep going. You will hear that more than any other type of advice out there and it’s true. Why give up? You’re just letting all that progress go and will never know where you will go with whatever you are trying to do. But when it comes to my qualities, like the top three, that I have gotten over the years it would be to not give up, practice what you are wanting to put out, and never stop learning. I think those go a long way for me and others that I know. Especially never stop learning part; there’s always more to take in, new tricks, all that.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am looking to collaborate with artists and other photographers for real time projects. Like campaigns for big time or small time clothing brands, shoot for fashion weeks, or anything that comes my way that will help me go farther than just doing tfp for local models that don’t appreciate what you do. I’ve been done wrong so many times, I am just ready for the big stuff, the real stuff. The opportunities that are going to take me somewhere. So yes, I am looking to collaborate, but for the right opportunity.
