Meet Taylor Spurgeon

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Taylor Spurgeon. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Taylor below.

Taylor, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us today. We’re excited to dive into your story and your work, but first let’s start with a broader topic that might be stopping many of our readers from pursuing their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. How have you managed to persist despite haters and nay-sayers that inevitably follow folks who are doing something unique, special or off the beaten path?

I knew what I wanted and I went for it despite what others were saying. I just kept telling myself “just imagine where you’d be at in a year or two” and I just keep doing that and it keeps me going because I just keep getting better at graphic design.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am a graphic designer that works mainly with metal bands, punk bands, rock bands, a nonprofit skateboard foundation in Uganda Africa, and skate shops all over the United States. I started back in 2020 in Portland Oregon doing small art projects, now I’m working with skate shops and bands doing custom graphics on clothing, on skateboards, custom poster art, stickers, album cover art, finger boards etc. you name it I can do it. The thing that I mainly focus on is the custom skateboard graphics, it fuels my passion and keeps me going. I’m currently working on two new skateboard designs that will be releasing in three months so be on the look out.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1. Always try and keep a positive mindset. 2. Take every moment as a learning moment. 3. Always be trying to better yourself.

If it’s one thing that has helped me to get where I’m at is keeping a positive mindset. There will be times that will be rough with your business and sitting in that rough time with a negative mindset will just add unneeded stress.
Take every moment as a lesson and be open to learning from it. You’re going to run into all different types of situations in your business so having a mindset to learn and a positive outlook is very important.
Most people don’t think about this but self growth is very important. When I started bettering myself and learning to truly love myself I was able to pour that love back into my business and it was easier to stay positive which in turn changed my whole perspective on how to run my business and helped me think of different ways to better it. Think of it as you can’t help better your business if you aren’t helping better yourself.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

When I’m getting overwhelmed in the business world I always take time to come back and take time for myself for mental and spiritual growth. This is VERY important because you will burn out fast if you aren’t taking time for yourself to recharge and work out the negative energy that may have built up, the clarity and positivity that I feel after after taking that time to recharge is crazy! It helps shift my perspective on the stuff that I’m struggling with for my business. Once you start incorporating self growth routine the rest will follow and you will see a huge difference in your business.
