Meet Taylor Walls

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Taylor Walls. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Taylor below.

Taylor, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

There was a moment when I felt like giving up on music. A door that I had prayed would open, one I dreamt of for years, slammed shut in my face. I thought it was the only way to pursue a career like this, and I remember asking myself, “Is this really worth it?”

But something inside me nudged me to keep going. So I did. There have been high moments and hard moments, but it’s in the hard moments where my resilience has grown. That’s where my faith, my family, and my friends kept the fire inside me burning bright.

Looking back, I so badly wanted the tough parts of my journey to be easier and honestly, there are still hard moments. But now, I’m grateful for them. They refined me into who I am today. There’s a quote I turn to often that says, “Mountain tops are for views and inspiration, but fruit is grown in the valley.”

I still don’t have it all completely figured out, but I know I’m exactly where I’m meant to be.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m a singer-songwriter from Southeast Michigan and music has always been part of who I am. I started at a very young age singing in church, having concerts in the car with my dad and performing for my family on my makeshift toy box stage. It’s always been in my bones and I just couldn’t shake it.

These days, I’m pursuing my solo career in music and honestly, it feels both terrifying and exciting at the same time. Putting yourself out there in a new way is never easy, but it’s so worth it. My original songs are inspired by heartbreak, love, faith, hope and the reminder to never give up on the gifts placed inside of you.

Currently, I’m recording new music that will be released in the coming months and playing live shows…where I really feel I come to life. I’m also creating visual content that allows people to get to know me and the stories behind my music! Follow along with me on Instagram and TikTok (@taylorwallsmusic) and feel free to check out my YouTube page where you can hear more of music and watch music videos that go along with them too (YouTube.com/@taylorwallsmusic).

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, I think the three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are resilience, authenticity and a willingness to grow.

Resilience kept me going when doors closed, when things didn’t make sense and disappointment hit hard. I had to build this little by little by showing up for myself, even when it was hard.

Authenticity helped me stay true to myself in an industry that often wants you to fit a specific mold. The right people will connect with who you actually are, not who you think you’re supposed to be.

Willingness to grow. This one is twofold. First, you can be confident in your gift and still stay teachable. Be open to feedback, stay curious and don’t let your ego get in the way of growth. Second, be open to growth in your faith. I’ve had to press into my faith during the hard times and even let go of the timelines I set for myself, trusting that God’s timing is better than mine

If you’re just starting out, my advice would be to stay rooted in who you are and don’t rush the process. Keep showing up, keep being real and keep making room for growth.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

Over the past 12 months, I think my biggest area of growth has been confidence, especially in showing up for myself and stepping out into the unknown. One year ago, I officially began putting music out as a solo artist. Since then, I’ve done so many things that once felt completely out of reach. I released four original songs (and one really cool classic-rock cover too), traveled to Nashville, TN to record with incredibly talented musicians and producers, filmed my first music video and even put myself out there more on social media more so people could actually get to know me, not just my music.

Every one of those things scared me and we’re very much out of my comfort zone, but its so rewarding to let go of fear and the mindset of not “being good enough”. I still don’t have all the answers, but I’m proud of how much I have grown in this process and I look forward to growing even more as time goes on.
