We were lucky to catch up with TDK Mulaa / Chef Mekhi recently and have shared our conversation below.
TDK Mulaa / Chef Mekhi, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I really get my way to adapt and survive from my parents and siblings . Growing up and coming from the west side of Chicago then to the suburbs, I had to adapt to a lot Of different environments and situations. It made me a wise person . I understand and learned certain things that others didn’t that helped shaped the way I think and go about things in life as well as our brand .
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Me and co owner started this with a dollar and a dream . Myself as an outspoken individual i want to see and be in places others dream of so i did something I know me , my team and family can see for generations and generations. Starting this business means everything to me and my team especially my co owner . We shaped this business to be the best of the best when it comes down to it . We just want to be better than we were yesterday.
It’s alot of new pieces and outwear on the way as well as new adventures with steaming and my co owner being a chef we want to be the best as we can be anything we want to do .
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Being consistent, finding your niche and being you is the best 3 things that needs to be remembered when being in business and wanting to be successful while also loving what you do. You have to fall in love with what you do so to do that you need to be yourself but better yourself in ways you see growth from . This helps improve business, attitude and structure. Stay consistent with everything you do no matter how hard it gets stay consistent no matter if it’s small or big . Find what you that’s trending, find your niche with it and keep doing it til you get where you need to be . This is what bigger businesses do on the daily basis on a large scale. It’s important to stay on top of these 3 things and better yourself while you’re at it .
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did was make me a boss . Make me a leader . They did everything they needed to for me to be great no matter how big or small. That got me ready to be successful and a person of wisdom for others. I appreciate everything my parents done to make this journey possible. Without them and god not who know where I’ll be .
