Meet Tej Kirti Kaur

We were lucky to catch up with Tej Kirti Kaur recently and have shared our conversation below.

Tej Kirti , so glad you were able to set aside some time for us today. We’ve always admired not just your journey and success, but also the seemingly high levels of self-discipline that you seem to have mastered and so maybe we can start by chatting about how you developed it or where it comes from?

My self-discipline definitely comes from my morning sadhana (my yoga and meditation routine). I’ve practiced it every single day for many years, and it’s built a deep rhythm of commitment, focus, and self-discipline in my life. Starting each day with intention strengthens my mind and aligns me with my purpose, so discipline has become second nature to me.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

In my classes, I offer students transformative tools to support healing in body, mind, and spirit. My teaching blends ancient Kundalini Yoga practices with other types of yoga and insights from modern science and medicine, helping students build confidence, improve creativity, reduce anxiety and stress, and unlock their natural energy.

I have two degrees, one is in Electrical Communication and another one is in Nursing. After many years working as a Registered Nurse, I was drawn to shift my focus from curing to true Healing.
I am a lifelong student, having studied under various teachers and different healing modalities—and I continue to deepen my knowledge. I am a certified yoga instructor with over 500 hours of training in Kundalini Yoga, Yin Yoga, Yoga Nidra, Mindfulness, meditation, and Trauma Yoga for kids and teens. I also specialize in Sat Nam Rasayan healing and sound bath healing with gongs and singing bowls.
My passion is to create a space for each student to find balance, growth, and self-discovery.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, the three qualities that had the most impact on my journey were self-discipline, openness to learning, and compassion—both for myself and others.
Yoga is a path that requires dedication, consistency and repetition. Self-discipline helps build the daily practice that deepens our growth and understanding. My advice to those starting out is to commit to a regular practice, even on the days it feels challenging. Show up for yourself, and over time, this consistency will build a solid foundation.
Yoga is a lifelong journey of study, with layers and layers of wisdom that unfold gradually. For beginners, I suggest exploring different styles, teachers, and traditions to find what resonates with you, what really speaks to your heart. Stay curious, and embrace learning.
Yoga requires compassion toward ourselves and those we guide. We’re often our own toughest critics, so cultivating kindness within ourselves can make the journey more joyful and supportive. For beginners my advice is to be patient with yourself, be gentle with your body and give yourself time to grow, change, evolve at your own pace.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

A book that has profoundly impacted my development is Wherever You Go, There You Are by Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D. This book introduced me to mindfulness in a way that felt accessible and deeply personal, and several insights from it continue to influence my life and practice.
One of the most valuable lessons is the importance of presence—learning to truly be in each moment without judgment or the need to change it. Kabat-Zinn’s reminder that “you can’t stop the waves, but you can learn to surf” has been especially powerful. It’s taught me that life’s challenges will come, and sometimes I cannot control them but how I respond to those challenges is important. Act, don’t react.
