Meet Temilolu

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Temilolu. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Temilolu below.

Hi Temilolu, thanks for sitting with us today to chat about topics that are relevant to so many. One of those topics is communication skills, because we live in an age where our ability to communicate effectively can be like a superpower. Can you share how you developed your ability to communicate well?

Growing up, I so much admired individuals who who had a way of getting other people’s attention simply by the way they spoke – whether that was as an actor, TV / Radio presenter or even a preacher. The fluency in their delivery, the confidence they exuded and everything in between made me also desire to be an effective communicator. So I would say to myself, I wanna speak like this actress, I wanna be confident like this presenter… I knew practice makes perfect and that Rome was not built in a day so I was ready to commit time and resources to my journey of becoming an effective communicator. So, often tines after watching a movie, I would stand in front of my mirror and mimic the characters that I admired how they spoke in the movie. I did this over and over until my confidence started to develop. I also embraced opportunities t. This helped to build my confidence. To expand my vocabulary, every time I came across a new word I would look it up in the dictionary and make sure I use it in the right context. Reading a variety of books and magazines also helped in expanding my vocabulary base . Soon I realised I was getting better in how I communicated with others. I am also a very passionate writer and enjoy being expressive in my writing . Every opportunity I had to communicate I would take it. I was not afraid to make mistakes but ensured I learnt from them each time. I would do a quick of scan my audience and adjust my style to suit my audience and keep them engaged in the conversation.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am a passionate actor and a teacher of God’s ppl word. I have been acting in Christian movies for very two decades. I have done things in the pipeline and hope to step into film production next year.
I have a YouTube channel which is the main platform I use to teach and pray for people every Sunday,. I also use instagram, TikTok and facebook to create and share content. my followers.
My sad-to-day job revolves around ensuring the quality of programmes delivered by tertiary education providers to ensure it aligns with relevant standards.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

1. Have a vision / dream big – I had a vision and it was a big one. I wrote it down and ran with it. I am still running with my vision. I wanted to impact others through my gifts and that is what I am doing today. Through acting, speaking I am able to encourage others to become the best they can be. My dream is to speak on the big stages, do world-class film projects. I am not there yet but I am on my way there.
2. Attitude to learning- never stop learning. No matter how good you are at something, there’s always room for improvement and with technology and everything moving at such fast pace these days, don’t be left behind. Add skill to your skills, knowledge to your knowledge. Be open to new things.
3. Self motivation/ Resilience – some times in life the road to success may feel lonely. No one to encourage you but you’ve got to be able to encourage yourself. Recognise how far you’ve gone, celebrate your successes and keep moving forward. Sometimes those steps will look like baby steps when you look at the big picture but don’t stop moving. For each step you take forward, you are one step closer to your big dream. Be resilient- every great person out there today faced opposition and set backs at some point on their road to success. The reason you hear about their story today is because they chose not to quit. Some failed several times but got back again each time. When we experience set backs, that’s an opportunity to reflect on our journey, choose to stay positive, find that inner strength and get back on track.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I am a Christian actor, soon to be producer. I am interested in collaborating with Christian film producers, individuals or organisations that support Christian movie production. I have some big projects coming up- finished scripts, and some in the oven. I am keenly looking to connect with organisations that can support in producing these movies.
