Meet Tenzin Chodon

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tenzin Chodon a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Tenzin , thank you so much for making time for us today. We can’t wait to dive into your story and the lessons you’ve learned along the way, but maybe we can start with something foundational to your success. How have you gone about developing your ability to communicate effectively?

As a child, I felt an innate curiosity about the world and a deep reverence for its rich mosaic of cultures. I believed that language was not only a tool for understanding but a bridge to empathy—and that belief led me to become a polyglot and begin translating at a young age.

At just 15, I began translating for the Regional Tibetan Administration in India. My goal wasn’t only to interpret language, it was to become a voice and ambassador for the Tibetan people and introduce our rich culture to the Indian community. In doing so, I played a part in bringing two diverse communities together. That experience laid the foundation upon which I cultivated the art of communication—not just as a skill, but as a calling.

As I continued translating, I stepped into increasingly dynamic roles. One opportunity led to another, and before long, I found myself working with ministers, diplomats, entrepreneurs, and esteemed public figures, supporting them in their communication, public speaking, and media presence. Perhaps the most meaningful and humbling moment of all was the honor of working in close association with His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama as a translator. As both a Tibetan and a human being, it was a profoundly emotional milestone. His teachings of compassion, clarity, and truth deeply influenced how I approach every aspect of communication.

These enriching experiences inspired me to create Le Prestige Academy—North America’s premier luxury finishing school, based in Toronto, Canada. Today, I work with individuals around the world to refine their presence, elevate their voice, and prepare them for life-changing opportunities, including TEDx talks and high-stakes stages. My communication style has been shaped not only by technical skill, but by the values of empathy, dignity, and purpose.
To me, communication is sacred—it’s how we connect, empower and uplift. And my mission is to help others communicate with confidence, intelligence, and heart.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I was born a Tibetan refugee, raised with stories of resilience, sacred wisdom, and hope — and that foundation continues to shape my life’s work today. Entering the communications industry at the age of 15 as a translator, I realized that communication is not merely how we speak, but how we shape the world — a vessel for truth, power, and lasting change. That profound understanding is what inspired me to create Le Prestige Academy — North America’s premier luxury finishing school dedicated to cultivating world-class communication, leadership presence, and global influence.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, the three most impactful forces in my journey — each both a quality and a skill — have been:

1. Growth Mindset
I began my journey with every reason not to succeed with the odds stacked firmly against me. But what I’ve learned is this: your mindset defines the quality of your life. It influences the opportunities you attract, the rooms you enter, and the person you become. A growth mindset is both a quality and a skill — one that requires daily nurturing. Had I not stayed open to learning multiple languages, I would never have had the honor of working closely with His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama as a translator, nor the privilege of working with global visionaries. I remain endlessly curious, because life is simply too short to not explore everything this extraordinary world has to offer.

Advice:
Curate your environment — books, conversations, mentors, and spaces that expand your thinking. Say yes to learning that scares you. Stay humble enough to be a student, even when you are called to lead. Growth is not linear; it’s layered, spiral, and sacred.

2. The Art of Human Connection
Over a decade in this field has shown me that communication helps you be understood — but connection helps you be remembered. Connection lives in the heart, not just the head. It’s about being fully present, seeing others as fellow humans, and choosing to lead with empathy instead of just transaction. A warm smile, a genuine compliment, a thoughtful gesture — these seemingly small moments leave lasting imprints. True influence doesn’t come from impressing people; it comes from impacting them.

Advice:
Be deeply interested, not just interesting. Practice emotional fluency: listen not only to respond, but to understand. Lead with empathy, and remember that your ability to be seen starts with your willingness to truly see others.

3. Networking Finesse
One of the most powerful realizations I’ve had is this: talent alone is not enough. Being in the right rooms, at the right time, with the right people can transform the pace of your success. But networking isn’t just about collecting contacts — it’s about cultivating relationships with intention. It’s about the finesse of staying in touch, being of value, and building circles that uplift different areas of your life — from fitness and reading to business and creativity. Often, what might take you 10 years to achieve can happen in 5 through the power of a well-nurtured network.

Advice:
Build relational equity. Show up consistently, not just when you need something. Curate diverse circles — one for inspiration, one for intellectual growth, one for deep reflection. Know that relationships are not ladders, they are bridges — and the strongest ones are built with intention, generosity, and time.
