Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Teresita King. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Teresita, thank you for joining us today and sharing your experiences and acquired wisdom with us. Burnout is a huge topic these days and so we’d love to kick things off by discussing your thoughts on overcoming or avoiding burnout
The best way to avoid burnout is to allow yourself rest days! For example, if you’ve spent the last couple days going out, networking, and spending time with friends, pulling back for a day where you do nothing but watch tv or do whatever relaxes you is the best way to avoid burnout. The day will also help you overcome burnout if you’re already burnt out.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m a Guyanese- American tv and film actress! I’ve always loved acting from the time I was 7 years old. At 16 I started acting classes and at 22 I moved to Los Angeles and went to an acting college! I’ve also been on a few Netflix shows as background but since I’ve come to LA, I’ve had a few short films come out. Still working my hardest on getting a lead role or co-star on a major tv show or movie! I’m most excited about captivating the audience the way I’m captivated whenever I watch a good film or show, as well as working with talented writers, directors and other actors. Aside from being A tv and film actress, I do modeling! I want to use my platform as a model and actress to advocate for and bring awareness to sickle cell disease, a disease that runs within my family, that turns your red blood cells into a sickle shape!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three qualities to have that I would recommend giving to someone early in their journey is never give up, be resilient and adapt to every situation. The acting world is tough, you may get a whole bunch of no’s before you get a yes but that yes will never come if you just give up! Adapting is learning why you got those no’s and fixing what you can to help your chances. Networking is also your friend! Who you know matters! You may meet someone who can help
You in your career and be a true friend from networking. And lastly, keep taking acting classes! Never turn your nose up because you can always learn something new. Even the greatest actors are still take acting classes! So keep doing it!
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am always looking for people to partner with! I’m a creative in LA! I’d love to connect with other photographers to strengthen my modeling portfolio. I’d love to connect with screenwriters, and filmmakers to create movies and tv with and I’d also love to collaborate with the SCDAA about bringing more awareness to sickle cell disease!
