Meet Teri Starr

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Teri Starr. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Teri below.

Teri, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

Writing songs is basically writing in my journal. Whatever I’m going through in my life or whatever I’m feeling, I write it all out in my notes, then I construct my notes into songs. This keeps my creativity alive because I always have things to write about considering it’s all just raw emotions which will never go away. I also enjoy experimenting with my vocals and different genres to mix it up.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My name is Teri Starr. I’m an Indie Alternative Rock artist from central Florida. I have an EP known as “Indie, Fendi, Prada” and a handful of singles released. You can stream all of my music on all platforms. Its been a little over a year that I have been writing and releasing music. I would say the most exciting thing throughout my journey so far is looking back and seeing the growth and confidence I’ve gained and fears I’ve overcome, but most importantly gaining more and more fans and supporters who bond and vibe to my music, It keeps me going and inspires me to never give up. I am always working on new projects, My goal is to release at least 1 single a month.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back I would say the three qualities/skills that are most impactful in my journey is self discipline, patience, and interpersonal skills. Self discipline is important to me because I have never taken singing lessons a day in my life. Everyday I’m gaining more confidence in my voice. I do my own warm ups and practice a lot to strengthen my voice and discover new things about my vocals. Patience is always key. If you are early in your journey it may take some time to reach your audience and it’s a little discouraging honestly, but you must keep going and be patient and before you know it you’ll have so many listeners and others who appreciate what you’re putting out. Lastly I would say interpersonal skills are very important in your music career. It really helps to be able to communicate clearly and effectively to where you are comfortable with working with other artists, producers, etc… network, connect with people who have similar interests and take in all the knowledge and criticism you can take. It helps build you up and gain more supporters and friends, which is an amazing feeling. Don’t ever give up.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

I would say my biggest area of growth in the past 12 months is my confidence. In the beginning of my journey, I had little to no confidence and a very low self esteem while battling with my social anxiety making it difficult for me to socialize in public spaces or even consider performing. Over the past year I have slowly overcome my social anxiety which resulted in me being able to go out in the world to socialize and network. Big confidence boost for sure.
