We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Termrak Chaiwat a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Termrak, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Keep creating cool stuff, and dive deeper into the topics that fascinate you. Staying persistent in your lifestyle is key to slowly building up your self-esteem. Consistently making and publishing your work helps a lot because the mindset you have when creating and when curating for the public is completely different.
You can always make work for yourself, but making it publishable takes things to another level. That process forces you to reflect on how much you’ve developed because the creative journey never really ends. Recognizing those small stepping stones along the way is important—they’re what help you keep reaching higher and higher.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I work in games and animation, where I build environments, design mechanics, and create tools to streamline workflows. I develop complex real-time simulations and deliver immersive experiences through world-building for players.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
In this era of rapid technological change, one of the most important skills is knowing how to ask good questions. Expanding your knowledge and demonstrating resilience by trying again until you get it right are crucial. This leads to my second point: persistence. We’re living in a time where there isn’t just one right way to do things; it’s about continually trying different approaches until you find what works. Lastly, beyond just creating your work, making connections and sharing it is essential. Invest time and energy into networking and publishing because it can become one of the most important aspects of your journey.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
This past year, I’ve learned how to embrace discomfort. One of my key projects involved being a technical artist for an animated short film that recently won a Student Oscar and is nominated for an Oscar next year. Balancing this challenging project with my master’s degree in game design tested my time management and productivity. I’ve realized that being comfortable in the discomfort zone is essential for pushing creativity and advancing in the industry. This shift in perspective has greatly impacted my happiness and personal life.
