We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Terrance Brashun. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Terrance below.
Hi Terrance, thank you so much for agreeing to open up about a sensitive and personal topic like being fired or laid-off. Unfortunately, there has been a rise in layoffs recently and so your insight and experience with overcoming being let go is relevant to so many in the community.
I always keep at least 2 to 3 jobs. Since I first started working in high school, I’ve always had multiple jobs at a time. You never know when one might fold, so it’s always good to have a backup. When one job lets me go or I get fired, I know that I can keep my head above water until the next one comes along. I’ve watched my mom and my sisters have multiple hustles all my life so I would be silly not to have learned to do the same for myself

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is Terrance Brashun, CEO of Classic Villain Music Group. I started the Classic Villain brand in March of 2015. Originally, it started with me just making prints out of things I would draw and from there I expanded the scope of the brand. I’ve always been a writer and a creative so I brought that to my brand. I began to design shirts with the help and advice of Brian Begley and then I added snapbacks because that’s usually how I shop. I’ve been a writer all my life so I started self publishing my own books and distributing them through Amazon. I have a degree in Visual Communication so anything you can think of doing visually, I’m able to do it. I’ve been doing music since high school so during the pandemic, I decided to finally start my own official label. Now, I am the CEO of my own label, I am the creative designer behind all my clothing designs and artwork for my brand and I am the executive producer behind numerous shows and a short film series called Ridge Run. Currently, I’m working on building a new brand separate from Classic Villain and preparing to release a lot of content next year.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think people who are early in their journey should understand that nothing stays the same and that you always need to pivot to keep up with the current market of things. Never get tired of learning because when that happens, you might as well just retire and move on to the next adventure. I think that’s how I’ve managed to keep going myself. My thirst for knowledge, my curiosity to experiment and my drive for success have been the most impactful things in my journey because they have allowed me to keep going when I see friends and other creators quit and pivot their dreams to other things

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed, I dive into my projects and get lost in the creative process. I can zone out everything for hours on end trying to learn how to do something new. It allows me to take my mind off the outside world and the things I can’t control and master the things that I can control. It also helps me to improve a project or learn something new to use on a future project.
