Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Terrance Donte. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Terrance with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I developed a strong work ethic early on thanks to my mother. She taught me how to handle business from a young age—how to open a bank account, build credit, and even introduced me to investing in stocks. My great-grandfather was one of the first Black sales clerks at Gimbels department store, and that legacy of perseverance runs deep in my family. My stepdad always said, ‘Nobody wants to hear excuses,’ and that stuck with me. I believe your work ethic reflects your character—how you show up says a lot about who you are. I’ve learned that if I don’t get it done, it won’t get done. With limited resources to fall back on, I’ve always had to rely on my own determination and discipline.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Most recently, I opened my own photography studio—a creative space where I can work, design, and collaborate with other artists. This has been a long-time dream of mine, and I’m proud to see it become a reality. The studio spans 850 square feet and features professional backdrops, lighting, and modern decor. I designed modular shooting sections so the layout and aesthetic can be easily adjusted to fit any vision. I recently did a shoot with DJ Crazy who is burning the radio waves up with his hit with Zeddy Will “Twerkin With Your Friends”.
In addition to running the studio, I serve as the Director of Photography for the Live 2 Be Legendary podcast, hosted by Fresh The Legend with co-host Scoe, and behind-the-scenes production by myself and Bake. Our guests on the Live 2 Be Legendary podcast represent the modern-day change-makers—artists, entrepreneurs, and community leaders who embody the spirit of resilience and innovation. The podcast guests played a key role in inspiring me to open my studio, sharing stories of their dedication, resilience, and commitment to their craft, gave me the confidence to move forward. So right now, I’m focused on growing my business and continuing to evolve personally. And I’m being intentional about learning, improving, and building something sustainable.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that just because something worked for someone else doesn’t mean it will work the same way for you. It’s essential to evaluate what’s truly working for you and what’s not. I also encourage seeking mentorship and guidance—it can make a huge difference. Be patient with yourself; success doesn’t happen overnight. And always keep learning. I’ve been able to do so many things because I took the time to teach myself, especially during a time when we didn’t have the technology or shortcuts available today.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
With the opening of my studio I’m looking to collaborate with like-minded creatives, entrepreneurs, and visionaries—people who are passionate about their craft, serious about building something meaningful, and grounded in culture and community. Whether it’s emerging fashion designers, models, music artist, podcast hosts, brand owners, or visual storytellers, I’m drawn to those who are purpose-driven and not afraid to push boundaries. I value collaboration that leads to growth, impact, and quality work that tells a story. LETS WORK
