We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Terry Ham II a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Terry, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
My optimism definitely comes from my dad and how i was raised to always look for the positive things instead of the negative things in every situation you find yourself in also another thing that helps me with it is the people around you, the people around you are so important because people will rub off on each other and if their negative or dont believe in you then you are not going to either. I also really do believe in myself and really enjoy what I’m doing and as long as i believe myself and am happy and proud of what i do i will have a optimism out look.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
i have 3 qualities i think are the most important and have helped me on our journey
1) Passion and Commitment: Having a genuine passion for what you’re doing and being committed to your goals is crucial. It’s what keeps you motivated during challenging times and drives you to keep pushing forward. To develop this, spend time exploring different interests and activities until you find something that truly ignites your passion. Once you’ve found it, immerse yourself fully and commit to continuous learning and improvement.
2) Stay Persistent and Patient: Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither is success. Stay persistent in pursuing your goals, even when progress feels slow or obstacles arise. Understand that success takes time, and be patient with yourself as you navigate the ups and downs of your journey. Celebrate small victories along the way and remember that every step forward, no matter how small, brings you closer to your goals.
3) Resilience and Adaptability: The ability to bounce back from setbacks and adapt to changing circumstances is essential in any journey. There will inevitably be obstacles and unexpected challenges along the way, but it’s how you respond to them that matters most. Cultivate resilience by maintaining a positive mindset, seeking support from mentors and peers, and embracing failures as opportunities for growth. Stay flexible and open-minded, willing to adjust your approach when necessary.
