We recently connected with Terry Jones and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Terry, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I get it because I know, know one is coming to save me. It’s up to me and me only if, I am going to be successful in my business.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I have my bachelors degree in Kinesiology (Exercise Science) However I found my calling in education. I am a full time Special Education Teacher. I focus in the economically disadvantaged communities. I like that area because it’s where I grew up and I know the benefits I can bring to a community like it. In the same neighborhood that I teach in, I invest in single family houses make affordable housing for the people there. I am a straight to the point kinda guy so I named my business after ME, (Terry The House Buyer)
I want to educate myself, the people around me and the people in those communities on how to build wealth in real estate. I want to show people how to build passive income in real estate and break generational curses.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I wish I would have learned about the power of real estate earlier in life. However, the mental state I was in and my maturity level I was not ready to learn about other options.
When things aren’t going well just learn how to pivot. Don’t quit, pivot. What do I mean by that? If you’re selling a product and it’s not selling, find a different marketing strategy. Or do a survey to see what colors work, what message stands out more, what is more eye catching. Brand yourself
My advice is to find your nitch/best quality and exploit it. Find something that you love to do and make a way for you to be able to make income from it, that way it’s not work because it’s something you love doing.
My best skill is I can talk to anyone. As long as we speak the same language I can have a conversation with anyone. I’m naturally an extrovert, plus I have Vitiligo which everyone seems to ask questions about.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did was NOTHING. I don’t grow up getting what I wanted. I didn’t grow up with my parents asking me to make a Christmas list. I got what I got and I better be grateful for it. Neither one of my parents finishing high school. I went many steps forward and got my bachelors degree. Me getting nothing taught me how I need to go get it on my own. My parents aren’t going to save me, I needed to save myself.
