Meet Terry Skywalker

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Terry Skywalker a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Terry , thank you so much for joining us today. There are so many topics we could discuss, but perhaps one of the most relevant is empathy because it’s at the core of great leadership and so we’d love to hear about how you developed your empathy?

I had the most amazing family growing up. We lived below the poverty line but all stuck together to create a wonderful life. They were people of faith and cared for others in public. They let us see compassion and empathy on a daily basis. That’s part of where my empathy spanned from. I was also bullied as a child. I was very smart and in impoverished neighborhoods that puts a target on your heads for bullies to make your life miserable. As I grew older I became very popular but I still had many friends that were not. I guess I felt connections to them because of how rough elementary school was. I faught wars in High School protecting those that could not protect themselves. As an adult my empathy comes from my love of God and my obedience to the lords word on how to treat others.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I moved to Atlanta because of some trouble that I got in back home in Brooklyn New York. While in ATL I eventually attended college at the illustrious Clark Atlanta University before graduating with my bachelor’s and masters in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from American Intercontinental University’s Dunwoody Campus and then from Argosy University with Doctorate in International Business. My pride and joy are my my positions as both a husband and father to a beautiful 12 year old girl. My company is Bonfire Worldwide LLC and it was formed last year after separating from my partners of 8 years due to irreconcilable differences. As event producers we are responsible for entertaining people that have to hustle and bustle on a daily basis. We provide a release for them to aod with elevating their stress. There is a reason why professional finance manager place entertainment in budgets at around 25% of revenue after living expenses. People go through alot on a day to day basis and need to smile, laugh, and dance in order not to go crazy. I li e what I do because it is fun but necessary. Currently we are partnered with the Historical Underground Atlanta on 3 events… “First Fridays: R&B•N•ART”, which is geared towards showcasing the art of local artists that may not be able to afford brick and morter locations or have pull to their their pieces in galleries and entrepreneurs that need outlets to engage in commerce. This event boasts over 25 artists and 10+ food and merch vendors along with interactive installations all while 2 DJs play classic and modern R&B to set the mood. We also do “Final Fridays: All Vibe – No Trap”, which has four DJs spinning Reggae, Afrobeat, House, and R&B all night with absolutely no hip hop. This events also has food, art, merch, and installations to give patrons different things to do but the emphasis is on the music. Finally we have our signature event, “Bonfire Sundays”. This event spanned from our popular event that my former partners and I did for 11 years. This event is a staple in the city of Atlanta. It’s geared towards creatives and entrepreneurs as well but also has comedy, a live band, other live performances and 3 DJs. It’s a great place to mingle, be entertained, and create amazing memories all while being yourself. Be sure to follow us @Bonfireworldwide and click the links in the BIO for Free Entry (b4 10pm) to any event.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I partied a great deal and of course that put me around the right people as peers. I am great at problem solving and as an event producers the goal is to tackle problems silently and and walk away without any issues. Last but not least I love people and treat people with respect and kindness. That leaves impressions on people and provokes them to do the same and to support you. I believe that working on your problem solving skills and how you treat others goes as long way in any profession.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I’m always looking to colab with other promoters or companies that respect my mission and want to provide fun, safe events and environment to the average working class individual. I’d like them to be professional, honest, risk takers with a vast event curation knowledge.
