Meet Tess Vockler

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tess Vockler. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Tess, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

My mother and family have instilled in me an extraordinary work ethic. Ever since I can remember, my mother would wake up at 5am, even in the dark Australian, cold winters. She would come into my room to say goodbye, dressed impeccably in a business suit after having already been at the gym, and was ready to drive an hour to the city as an entrepreneur. Additionally, my years in the US, particularly in LA, further honed my work ethic. The hustle required there, along with the demands of the American corporate world, pushed me to enhance and utilize my work ethic to its fullest. I’ve grown to enjoy the journey and challenges, embracing my competitive nature.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I attended music school in Melbourne, Australia which paved the way for becoming one of the pioneering female DJs in the city’s vibrant nightlife scene. I held residencies at various nightclubs in Melbourne and Sydney as the only female DJ resident. One of my most memorable performances was at the Taylor Swift RED Tour in 2013 at Rod Laver Arena.

I have also had the pleasure of DJing at prestigious events in Australia such as the Melbourne Racing Carnival in the Myer Marquee and with Schweppes, the F1 Grand Prix, and high-profile events for brands like Dom Perignon, Bulgari, Mumm, Bentley, and the Jeep Portsea Polo.

In 2017, I was fortunate to win a green card in the lottery while visiting NYC with my mother, which allowed me to move to the US and continue my career as a DJ and vocal artist.

My journey in the US has seen me perform in Las Vegas, Los Angeles – particularly Hollywood, Dallas, San Diego, San Francisco, as well as in Mexico. A key highlight was performing at G’Day USA in Los Angeles, where I had the honor of entertaining an audience that included Margot Robbie, Delta Goodrem, Isla Fisher, Rose Byrne, Amy Adams, and John Travolta. This event, sponsored by Qantas, was in tribute to Heath Ledger. Additionally, I signed a record deal with the European label Sirup Music in Switzerland.
Moreover, I performed at the Murdoch Children’s Foundation event at the family estate in Bel Air, attended by notable Australians and entrepreneurs, and at Soho House in LA, where renowned artists such as Leona Lewis and Chris Martin have graced the stage. A significant milestone in my career was being invited as an attendee to the Billboard Women in Music Awards in Los Angeles.

I plan to re-release a previous song of mine and it is called “Easy to Love”. Stay tuned for this later in the year via my Instagram: there will be an exciting lead up to this. You can find me at: @tessvockler

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Ambition, grit, perseverance. Networking all of the time is incredibly important, and you really have to love every aspect of it.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

The years that they have supported me in any pursuit I had I could never repay them. From allowing me to try out for a scholarship within my Tennis pursuits – where I was a scholarship recipient and in particular the sport program at my school in Australia, taught me the importance of working hard, resilience and excellence. I also sung in various choirs and solo performances in which they always had my back. These lessons for life have shaped me into a successful and dedicated musician and businesswoman that has travelled the world for tours and lived in LA for the past 7 years. The importance of sport in one’s life from a young age has been where I have cultivated discipline, and this has become the cornerstone of my life and enhanced the journey.
