We were lucky to catch up with Teyonna & Jamarea Lofton & Coleman recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Teyonna & Jamarea, so happy to have you with us today and there is so much we want to ask you about. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others developed certain skills or qualities that we are struggling with can be helpful. Along those lines, we’d love to hear from you about how you developed your ability to take risk?
Our journey in building this childcare company has been shaped by our willingness to take risks and embrace failure as a steppingstone to success. Each setback taught us valuable lessons, and armed with the faith of a mustard seed, we persisted in our efforts. This unwavering belief in our mission and our ability to grow from challenges ultimately empowered us to pursue our dreams and create a nurturing environment for children and parents in New Orleans.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
What started as a side hustle during our college years has blossomed into something much bigger—Babysitters Club Nola LLC. Founded by two passionate friends and proud Black women, our company was born out of a desire to provide reliable childcare services to families in New Orleans while creating flexible job opportunities for young adults in our community.
At Babysitters Club Nola, we understand that every family has unique needs. Whether it’s babysitting, tutoring, or transportation services, we meet parents where they fall short, offering tailored solutions to help them balance their busy lives right in the confront of their home or anywhere safe for our kids and caregivers Our dedicated team of caregivers is not only skilled and nurturing but also trained to provide a safe, engaging environment for children.
As a local business, we take pride in being deeply rooted in the New Orleans community. We know the challenges parents face, especially those juggling work, school, and family responsibilities. That’s why we’re committed to creating a support system that alleviates stress and ensures that every parent can find the help they need.
Moreover, Babysitters Club Nola LLC offers meaningful employment opportunities for young adults who seek flexible schedules. By empowering our team members with job skills and experience, we are helping to foster the next generation of leaders in our community.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
As I look back at the inception of our business, it’s clear that one key motivation has always been at the forefront our deep love for the children we work with and our desire to ensure parents feel satisfied and supported. From the very start, we recognized that children are not just little clients; they are the heart of our mission. By genuinely caring for their well-being and education, we created a nurturing environment where kids can thrive, learn, and grow.
At the same time, we understood that parents are our partners. Their trust and satisfaction drive us to continually improve and innovate our services. By actively listening to their concerns and needs, we were able to build strong relationships that fostered a community around our business. It’s this dual focus on genuine care for the children and dedicated support for parents that has not only made our business thrive but has also made our journey truly meaningful.
