Meet Thang Nguyen

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Thang Nguyen. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Thang, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.

Our biggest source of creativity is living life with Khoa. Kids really see wonder everywhere. We’re always looking for those everyday moments adults overlook. Like mandarin fish – they’re these incredible rainbow creatures most kids have never heard of. Or carnivorous plants that fascinate kids but rarely appear in books. We keep a running list of these ‘wait, that’s cool’ discoveries.
Everything has to pass the Khoa test – does it make him want to put on those pajamas and become that character? If we can capture that ‘Look, it’s you!’ magic, we know our creativity is working.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

We make bamboo pajamas that let kids become the characters in their bedtime stories. Think dragons, whale sharks, werewolves – basically anything that makes a kid go “whoa!”
It all started when our toddler Khoa fell in love with this book about a koalacorn. Every time we saw a koala, we’d say “Look, it’s you!” and he’d light up with the biggest smile. That’s when it hit us – what if every kid could feel like the hero of their own story?
We had zero experience in the pajama world, but we’re parents who wanted to make bedtime magical. So we figured it out as we went – finding the softest bamboo fabric, working with amazing illustrators, and creating stories that teach kids about kindness and courage.
The best part has been watching kids fall in love with our characters and jammies. When they put on our dragon pajamas and read our dragon story, they don’t just wear a costume – they become the character. We’ve earned the trust of over 1,000 families now, and knowing our jammies are part of so many bedtime routines means a lot to us.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1. Attention to Details
We spent months sampling fabric blends to really make the difference between pajamas kids wear and ones that they LOVE.
Advice: Obsess over the basics first. Ask yourself “would I actually use this?” and be brutally honest.
2. Prioritization of Quality
Our rule from day one: if it’s not good enough for Khoa, it’s not good enough for any child..
Advice: Define your quality standards before you need them.
3. Trust in Yourself
We had zero experience in children’s products or fashion. There were moments questioning if we were crazy to think two parents could compete with established brands. But watching Khoa’s face light up during story time reminded us we understood something important about what families actually wanted.
Advice: Your “outsider” perspective is your superpower. Don’t try to do things like everyone else – that’s how you get the same solutions everyone else has.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?

Honestly? We’re getting overwhelmed with requests for new styles and prints.
But as a small business, we have to be strategic about which characters and stories we bring to life, while still maintaining our high standards for fabric quality and meaningful storytelling.
It’s a good problem to have, but definitely our biggest growing pain. We want to make every kid’s bedtime dreams come true while staying true to what got us here – quality over quantity.
