Meet Thavika Savangwongsakul

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Thavika Savangwongsakul a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Thavika, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

For me, confidence and self-esteem came naturally over time. I realized that not being scared or afraid to be yourself is very important. It’s about understanding that everyone is on their journey, walking their path. Once I recognized that, I stopped comparing myself to others. This shift in mindset was crucial for me. I began focusing on my growth and achievements, rather than constantly measuring myself against others. It’s liberating to realize that you are not in competition with anyone but yourself. It’s an ongoing process, but it’s incredibly rewarding

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m an artist, currently focusing on painting and installation art, though I love experimenting with various mediums. What excites me most about my work is the ability to explore different forms of expression and create immersive experiences for my audience. Each piece I create is a journey, both for myself and for those who interact with it.

My work is the blend of traditional techniques with contemporary concepts, creating a unique dialogue between the old and the new. I aim to provoke thought and evoke emotion, inviting viewers to see the world from a different perspective.

Recently, I’ve been working on a series of installations that incorporate interactive elements, allowing the audience to become a part of the artwork itself. This has been a thrilling venture, as it pushes the boundaries of conventional art forms and fosters a deeper connection between the art and its audience.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Resilience: The ability to bounce back from setbacks and keep pushing forward was essential. The art world is full of rejections and criticisms, but viewing these as opportunities for growth rather than obstacles helped me stay motivated and continue improving my craft. Learn from them and use them as stepping stones to improve.

Creativity: Embracing my creativity and continuously seeking new ways to express myself has been a driving force in my work. Experimenting with different mediums and techniques allowed me to discover my unique voice and keep my work fresh and engaging. Always be curious and open to new ideas. Don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone and try new things. Creativity thrives on diversity and exploration.

Self-Discipline: Staying committed to my goals and maintaining a regular practice schedule was key to my development. Art requires consistent effort and dedication, and having the discipline to keep working. Consistency is vital, make time for your practice regularly, even if it’s just a little each day.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

The most impactful thing my family did for me wasn’t just one big gesture, but a series of small, meaningful actions rooted in trust and support. While they might not always fully understand my artistic journey, they’ve always believed in my decisions and trusted me to find my way. This unwavering faith in my abilities has been incredibly empowering.

One of the most touching ways they’ve shown their support is through their concern for my well-being. Even when they see how hard I’m working and the responsibilities I juggle, they still make sure to ask if I’m getting enough sleep or if I need anything. It’s their way of reminding me that they’re there for me.

The best support they’ve given me is the freedom to pursue my passions on my terms. By allowing me to carve my own path, they’ve given me the space to grow, experiment, and develop my unique voice as an artist. This trust and quiet support have been the bedrock of my confidence and resilience.

These small, consistent acts of care and belief are what have truly made a difference in my journey.
