The, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?

While the process is basically the same for each piece in the Pedissert series, I like to try and incorporate other elements at times, such as holidays. Right now, I’m working on a Christmas-themed version. I’d also like to do a Mardi Gras version, as well as a July 4th version.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I have a site called “Art-istic Absurdities”, where I create bizarre, messy art pieces inspired by my watching too much Nickelodeon as a child. You can check it out at artisticabsurdities.com, as well as our Instagram site at https://www.instagram.com/artisticabsurdities/.

Right now, I am working on a series called “The Pedissert.” Inspired by a scene from a Nickelodeon show from my childhood that has lived rent-free in my head for decades, I make ten colorful whipped cream pies, and then proceed to smoosh them into a woman’s bare feet, creating ephemeral, colorful, (technically) edible, living sculptures.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Always look at opportunities to improve. After every shoot, I analyze what I’ve done and find ways to improve on it. How do I make my photos look better, where the colors really pop? How do I make the pies more colorful and sticky?

Be confident in what you’re doing. Even if you’re awkward on camera, be confidently awkward! Own your persona.

Reach out to others for feedback, and take their comments and criticisms into account. While your art may not be for everybody, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t discount other people’s opinions entirely.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?

Being more confident in myself to want to do this project.

I was initially a little fearful about doing the Pedissert series. People might think you’re creepy or doing some weird fetish thing. I absolutely get why they would feel that way.

Having confidence in yourself goes a long way, because people will be more receptive to your ask. While I do pay those who participate, it’s been a little surprising to me how many people have been willing to participate, or at least not run the other way when I provide them the details of the project.
