Meet The Brince

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to The Brince. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

The , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Music has always been an important part of my life. I started playing violin when I was 5, and then throughout the years, I moved on to piano, guitar, bass and drums. I joined a band in early 2000, and when we went into the studio to record, seeing the engineer transform our songs made me want to become an engineer myself. I studied audio engineering on and off while in college trying to find majors that stuck with me, but nothing sat well for me. Since music has been my passion all my life, I decided to go to school for audio engineering, and I fell in love with music in a whole other level. Shortly after I graduated, I started working at EOA Digital studios recording, mixing, producing and mastering for artists. I can happily say, I am working my dream job.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
What I feel is most exciting about working in a recording studio is all the different genres of music I work with. Being born and raised in New Orleans LA, I been exposed to so many different styles of music that I have a profound understanding of what each artist is trying to accomplish to help them produce, mix and master their songs. I also got to work on film on set as a boom op and post production recording ADR, foley, sound design as well as mixing films.

Currently, in my own project, I play guitar in a goth rock band called Vickis Dream. We released our first album the end of last year along with a video for our song Morbid. The drums on the album were performed by Jeff Friedl (A Perfect Circle) and was mixed by Matt Mcjunkins (A Perfect Circle). We are currently prepping for our next album to be recorded this coming spring. My band is focusing on becoming a national act, playing music festivals and other music show cases around the country to help expand our audience. You can find our music on all streaming platforms. There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think the 3 most important qualities to have is to hustle, have strong work ethics, and discipline. It’s hard to get into the music industry, especially being an engineer. We are like grains of sand on the beach. if you’re not careful, you will get washed away into the sea. What I mean by that is, you have to believe in yourself, stay motivated and hustle every day, or you will not go anywhere. You have to go above and beyond when dealing with clients. They will remember how you treat them. If you do something for them that no other engineer has done, that would work in your favor. With that being said, when I work with people, I don’t just hit record and look at a dollar sign. I make sure the artist is putting in the delivery the song needs to shine. I do have the tendency to push them beyond what they think they are capable of doing, but that’s what gives the results that they expect from me.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
I am about to have spinal surgery. I was born with a genetic disorder called Neurofibromatosis, a disease that causes tumors to grow on nerve tissue. I currently have a tumor on my spine that is in a dangerous area. If it keeps growing, it could either get into my lungs and cut off my breathing, or it can burs and leak spinal fluid into my lungs and suffocate me. Therefore, it must come out. I am going to be out of work for 2-3 months and that scares me because it’s going to be difficult for me to keep up with my living expenses not being able to work. I am having a fund raiser where people can donate to help me with my expenses. If you are interested in donating, I would dearly appreciate it. Here is the link. https://gofund.me/f2283c5d
