Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to The Real Li. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi The Real LI, so happy you were able to devote some time to sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our community. So, we’ve always admired how you have seemingly never let nay-sayers or haters keep you down. Can you talk to us about how to persist despite the negative energy that so often is thrown at folks trying to do something special with their lives?
I think knowing that I’m gonna die one day. I want to do so knowing I lived my life for me. Cuz at the end of the day nothing really matters and most people are going to forget you. You mine as well do what you want. I’d continue doing music whether I become A-list or not, it’s my favorite thing in the world.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m an artist, more specifically a rapper and music producer. My specific niche of music falls under what some would call “melodic rap” or “melodic trap” music. It’s inspired by artists like Travis Scott, Lil Uzi Vert, Young Thug and Future.
The most exciting thing about making music for me is telling stories and documenting moments in time. It really helps me navigate my way through my life and the world.
My brand is staying true to yourself as an individual and doing whatever you want in life. Being honest and loyal. Questioning the world. Being existential. While simultaneously joking about everything possible along the way.
I just recently released a new 9-song album called “The Black Sheep”, it’s available on all music streaming services. One core theme of the project is about embracing your individuality as a badge of honor, no matter how isolating it can be sometimes.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Persistence, Patience, and Belief. Those are 3 things you need to be successful in music and business broadly.
Persistence is key because you’re going to get rejected. A lot. You are going to fail. Over and over. But there’s going to come a time when you will succeed. And the more times you try, the more chances you have at that success.
Patience because that success won’t happen overnight. Don’t let the internet fool you, most successful people have been working at their craft for far longer than it seems to the public eye. It takes 10 years to become an overnight success.
Belief. The most important thing. There will be times where no one will believe in you. Sometimes even your close friends and family won’t understand why you’re doing what you’re doing. That’s okay. Because the only thing that matters is that YOU believe. And sooner or later, everyone else will catch up.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
They didn’t force me to be anyone I’m not. My parents supported me in everything I ever did, regardless of how rational or irrational it may seem. And for that I’m forever grateful because not everyone has that.
