Meet Theartbreak Kidd

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Theartbreak Kidd. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with tHeartbreak below.

THeartbreak, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?

I have to take risks. Things get familiar and you end up living the same story over and over again. Everything you write, paint, create, it all sounds the same until you take a risk and experience new things. I was 17 when I made my first song. A junior in high school and I felt like the world in the palm of my hands, I had so much to show, so much to tell. The more risks I took, the more my music grew. The more experiences I exposed myself to, the more stories I had to tell through my lyrics and beats. Life is nothing more than making mistakes and having fun doing so, the only way anybody became the best at what they do was through trial and error. Through risk-taking and experimenting. That’s how I keep my creativity alive. “Creativity is inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes, and having fun.” -Mary Lou Cook

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

My real name is Andrew but under any type of art I produce, I go by tHeartbreak Kidd. It took a couple years to find a stage name I stuck with. I’ve went through several names including my OG name ‘Aztro’ and different variations such as ‘Tro’ or ‘TSM Tro’ (TSM being the acronym for my brand ‘The Springs Media’). I have several things going on professionally such as my music career, managing other artist within my label, photography, shows, and even drop shipping my own personal brand ‘Planet tHeartbreak’. When my friend Jerrell and I first set out in our music career, our goal was to have a name for ourselves within our home state. Today, our label is one of the fastest growing and as I get ready to perform a show in September for a chance to headline in Colorado, I find myself reminiscing to the times I was recording out of my closet, in my car, or in my sisters room. The growth has been the most exciting part for me. Listening to my old songs and hearing the quality grow exponentially and seeing our two-person label grow into an army of 6 people makes me want to improve more so I can continue looking back and acknowledging mine and everyone else’s growth as a brand.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, it took a lot of dedication to start-up. No one was there to master and mix my songs and being new to multiple softwares such as FL Studio and Pro Tools, I had to dedicate a lot of time learning the functions of both softwares while I was a full-time student and working. Thankfully, I took music classes since I was in 6th grade and the knowledge I gained through the years of being in those classes helped speed up how quick I picked up on composing my own music. Along with dedication and previous knowledge of musicology came a lot of passion, and those three things were the most influential in the growth of my personal music career and brand expansion. Without passion, my want to improve and create art wouldn’t have existed. When you believe and want to achieve something so strongly, the work it takes becomes irrelevant and you do everything you can to develop the skills necessary for your dream(s).

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?

Right now I’m having troubles overcoming my self-consciousness. Through Tik-Toks, Instagram reels, and even YouTube videos, I find myself struggling getting in front of a camera and recording myself promoting my personal brand. One thing that has helped me become a little more confident is diversifying my clothing style. As counterintuitive as it may sound, straying myself as far from normal as possible helps me feel independent and unlike others which helps push me to express myself.
