Meet Theo “Rick Vick” Johnson

We were lucky to catch up with Theo “Rick Vick” Johnson recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Theo “Rick Vick”, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

When you become the “backup” for everybody else, you learn early how to be your own rescue team. You don’t wait around for the “Are you okay?” or “How are you feeling?”—because those questions don’t always show up for people like us. The weight we carry is often invisible to the world, except to the few who truly see the oil on our lives… the ones who recognize what God has placed on us.

I’ve learned that when you’re anointed to hold others up, you better know how to lift yourself too. I developed a bounce-back spirit. We don’t know how to stay DOWN.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

First, I’d like to thank you all for the opportunity. It’s truly been a journey, and I’m grateful for the chance to share a glimpse of it. My name is Theo, known to those close to me as Ricky — together, that’s Theo “Rick Vick” Johnson. I’m the owner and founder of GetYahGreatness, a brand I created a few years back rooted in motivation and faith.

In my 45 years on this planet, I haven’t met one person who doesn’t rely in some form or fashion on motivation. Whether it’s the gym-goer pushing through another rep, the student grinding toward their dreams, the struggling parent holding it all together, or the kid trying to make the team — we all need that spark. That’s where GetYahGreatness comes in.

The brand was born during a time when I needed motivation the most. I was going through some things, and I kept seeing people on social media setting goals, chasing purpose, and pushing through their own storms. That lit a fire inside me. I told myself, “Go get your greatness.” And from that moment, GetYahGreatness was formed.

Since then, we’ve grown beyond just motivation. We’ve stepped into praying over others, offering spiritual encouragement, and being a source of protection and guidance for our community — for us. It’s no longer just about hype, it’s about healing.

And now, we’re planting new seeds — different branches of GetYahGreatness that are being nurtured, watered, and prepared to bloom. Big things are coming… and I can’t wait for the world to see them.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, I’d say the three qualities that shaped my journey the most were faith, consistency, and resilience.

Faith taught me how to stand when I didn’t understand. There were times I didn’t see the full picture, but I trusted that God was painting something greater than I could imagine. That belief became my anchor when life tried to shake me.

Consistency became my silent weapon. Motivation will get you started, but consistency keeps you in motion. There were days I didn’t feel inspired, but I showed up anyway — for myself, for my vision, for the people depending on my message. That daily discipline built strength I didn’t know I had.

Resilience molded me through the pressure. It’s one thing to have a dream, but it’s another to take the hits and still keep swinging. I learned to see rejection as redirection and pain as preparation.

My advice to anyone early in their journey is this: don’t chase perfection, chase progress. Stay rooted in your faith, stay consistent with your grind, and don’t be afraid to start small. God can’t multiply what you don’t move on. Every step, even the uncertain ones, counts toward your greatness.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Absolutely. Collaboration is a big part of what GetYahGreatness stands for. We’re all about connection, community, and creating something that outlives us. Right now, we’re working on several exciting projects and always open to partnering with people who share the same drive, purpose, and heart.

One of the newest ventures under our umbrella is GetYahSnax, a vending machine company born from the same mindset as GetYahGreatness: to serve, provide, and inspire. It’s not just about snacks; it’s about building ownership, entrepreneurship, and opportunity in our communities.

We’re also in the early stages of developing a documentary that will follow my personal journey and possibly a few others, highlighting the climb, the lessons, and the light that came from every dark place. It will also document my path to breaking a national USPA powerlifting record, showing the discipline, faith, and mindset it takes to push the limits both physically and spiritually.

Another dream in motion is the creation of a GYG gym, a space dedicated to physical and spiritual strength. We’re actively looking for investors and partners who believe in the vision, people who see the power in combining faith, fitness, and community impact.

Lastly, we’re setting up a podcast called Mi Hermanos, Let’s Talk. This one’s special because it’s a space for men of all backgrounds to open up about life, struggles, growth, and brotherhood. No judgment, no filters, just real talk about real things.

For anyone interested in partnering, collaborating, or even just connecting, reach out through our social media platforms, Instagram, YouTube (IG: @_GetYahGreatness, YT: GetYahGreatness) and or via our website, GetYahGreatness.com. We’re always open to working with those who move with purpose and vision.

Also, check out GetYahGreatness.com and grab 1, 2, or 20 of those #BIGANOINTED oversized hoodies.
We’ve got the Ascend version — wear it like a crown.
And the Legacy version — be legend.
Either way, display your power.
And why not? It’s hoodie season…. Christmas is around the corner.

Thanks again for the opportunity, continue to walk with faith. “Wake up to Something Meaningful – Not meaningless”.
