Meet Theophilus Coakley

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Theophilus Coakley. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Theophilus, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

My self-esteem comes from my mother, who always encouraged me, and believed that I could be whatever I chose to be. she was the one that arranged for me to attend music school, even though we didn’t have money. The reason I accomplished so much of the things i wanted to do, was to show her that all her encouragement and and love paid off. unfortunately she passed away when i was 14 so she wasn’t physically with me when I attained success, but she was a believer and she believed that she would be with me always.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’ve been a professional Musician since i was 16 years old. I grew up in Nassau Bahamas. I love what I do tremendously! I Started recording in the mid 70s and achieved success in 1977 with a number one dance record called ‘Do What You Wanna Do’ among others. It was the most fun time of my life. I’m still performing. and recording, and will have something out soon. i feel like musical entertainment is the most fun career that one can have.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1.Work on the craft. 2. Listen. 3. Be creative, don’t be a follower. To those early in your journey Search your mind in order to find the way you need to go.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

They allowed me to follow my dream.
