Meet Theresa Moore

We recently connected with Theresa Moore and have shared our conversation below.

Theresa, we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?
My self-care began as a professional attendance to ensure burnout did not occur. This meant, taking time out for breaks, saying no to overcommitting, and setting boundaries with timelines and personal priorities. Yet I found this to be helpful in my professional goal setting only. As my children needs grew, and life began an intense phase of change, I realized, I needed more to ensure I included my Self in the self-care practice. Self is not a personhood of the inner world; it is truly a reflection of the outer world as well. I have had a history of my outer world impacting the needs of my inner world to a point where I did not identify the difference. The Self became a window to a world I sought to be a part of, instead of the mirror to which I could recognize I belonged. A radical transformation occurred, and I was only able to do one thing, live. There was no time, nor prep for doing life as a human, I had to become within my being human.
Growing up as a child I was often interested by “things not seen” but believed to be true, such as spirit and love. As a teen into young adulthood, I used tarot (inner psyche exploration) with my interest in astrology (the stars) and astronomy ( Uni), to gain awareness of what I wanted to become, as well as how. The who took some time yet within my professional learning and development, I began to engage in personal practices that not only valued my time and InnerG (energy) as well as my need for self-love. I began to start my day with reflection or meditation either through internal awareness or journaling. I used my skill as a lyricist and poet to keep my creativity alive, as well as use my throat chakra to express my power. This led to an expanded view of care to not only focus on my immediate needs and wants and included a practical way to monitor my needs and create goals.
I currently I use a variety of methods depending on the needs which may include but are not limited to: And Cards (purple box), Oracle or Tarot one card pull, music inspiration, with song writing or just singing bowl playing, Movement is important for flow, so after a time internally reflecting, I may take a walk, run, lift, stretch or do a combination. It is important to move so my entire body feels the connection I am seeking towards love. I also engage in monthly meditation practices on full and new moons to set intentions and create space for connection to my outer world and purpose.
I believe without any one or more of these practices, my day is “off”. I have even been told by others that there is a noticeable difference in my expression and mood when I have not completed any one or more of these tasks. I believe this is true indeed. This self-care practice extends to my teaching as a professional within my role as a clinician and beyond to my role as a parent. When there are opportunities to ground, I often take time to bathe with lights or salt baths to recenter and connect to an intentional vibration of health.
This path has led me to create a line of products focused on supporting others in their time of grounding and refocusing towards inner health and peace. I often use these products with my clients who also seek ways to define care with an emphasis on the Self.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Flexibility, kindness, and trust are the top three areas of knowledge used frequently. There are specific counseling techniques and modalities that teach these skills as a tool towards empathic support within the therapeutic setting, to assist clients in their growth. I believe these are three skills that are helpful in entrepreneurship as well, that create a deeper appreciation of the journey.
Using flexibility allows me to keep an open stance towards change and knowing it is ok to accept and release when something is “not working”.
Using kindness keeps me grounded towards- being well. Kindness is a version of love that supports my identity as a healer of old wounds, new experiences that I deserve, and confronting challenges along the way. Kindness also supports me staying mindful that being kind is a work of art that demonstrates progress through the positivity it connects.
Trust supports an inner knowing and awareness of the Self. Within my practice, work, and personal growth, it guides in revealing a knowing that there is hope. It can become a bit overwhelming at times to guide through the various concerns of others, and of self; and having a trust in the process helps. Alot.
How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
There is a current stagnation of money that appears to be a block in expansion. I believe some of this is my own interpretation of not wanting to “sell” myself as a product or brand, rather be a resource for growth and development. When beginning this professional journey, the main mantra of many mentors and professionals was that ” this is not a field that makes tons of money”! Yet, this is a billion-dollar industry, so where the money at? 🙂 My current challenge is confronting this ideology to invest in wellness as a brand, business, and way of being towards prosperity.
