We recently connected with Thomas Pedersen and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Thomas, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
As a child I admired watching my father build and create furniture in his workshop which turned into masterpieces. Every aspect from design to finish product was his creative touch and made by hand. We didn’t have a lot of money growing up so this wasn’t a fancy/state of the art wood shop. This was your old school Master Craftsman workshop that had tools of all sorts mostly manpowered hand tools. I can remember everything had a place and the love of every tool was inspiring because at that young age iron understand the depth of what they meant. I lost my father as a teenager, so all those tools gained a sentimental value that had no monetary value. For one he engraved his initials on everything and two starting out in the similar footsteps I was able to use the same tools my father cherished. All those lessons, long nights, and and lectures that was drilled into me started to paint a picture that I never imagined at the time these gifts were being given. I remember constantly being told I would look back on this situation or conversation one day and understand, which it finally was and it was almost eerie because of the weight that everything carried. What I didn’t understand until developing into a Early adulthood was he was instilling a work ethic and skill set into me that is all but lost in today’s age. The pride, the honor, and the integrity of every little thing started to brand my own reputation. And I always wanted to be just like him, which most sons feel growing up with their father as their role model, but they were some big shoes to fill. Luckily I was blessed to have the time with him before he transitioned that helped build a level of confidence to believe in myself and being told that he looks up to me while I’m looking up to him, was just another creative tactic into me. Fast forward 20 years later, now I have a son which I find myself saying and doing the same things, creating flashbacks, that my father was saying and doing to me. Let me tell you the déjà vu experiences I have and a mixed emotions of sad and happy with everything else in between because he succeeded in his mission and now I get to pass it on myself which is a beautiful thing. Who knows maybe in another 20 years there will be a similar article My son is creating and with today’s technology and who knows where the advancement is going for his time to come, but at least there will be this article to tag or share and make this inspirational story that is about so much more than a work ethic, that much more and beautiful.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
What has helped me get to where I am and maintain a vision of moving forward has been all about motivation, determination, and perseverance. The only way to truly grow and move up is to fall or experience failure. It’s how those lows are utilized and used as lessons to learn from which has helped me navigate along my path. Sometimes it’s taking a step back or finding an alternate route, another one is redundancy plans because there is always more than one way and it’s not always about right or wrong. Like the saying goes it’s not about the destination is the journey, which is so true because because the experience of the destination will mean a lot more based on the experiences of the journey.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
With this starting off on the story of my work ethic, the star being my father, has had the biggest impact in my life because of all the lessons that are still being learned to this day even after 20 years of my last interaction. Not saying my mother didn’t play a role it was just a different type and I still have her for advice and other life guidance situations. But as children and teenagers, that ultimately shapes are adulthood which is my belief. I know I am living proof of that and and experiencing it myself raising my own children.
