Meet Thorn Gaskill

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Thorn Gaskill a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Thorn, we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?

When I make myself a necklace, or a set of earrings as if I where making it for my friends, I find it to be very healing. I put a lot of love in my art with organic materials. Come to think of it, harvesting the materials encourages me to go outside more. A fancy drink like a rose milk tea or cinnamon coffee helps, make it at home to add extra care and energy to your treat. Taking time to nurture yourself and remind yourself who you are is important.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m an artist and model. I make jewelry using materials like bones, crystals and hemp. I also make abstract paintings, soap and candles. The purpose in my modeling is to form a closer relationship with art. And the meaning of my art and self care items is to form a deeper love for life. Romanticize every sorrow, remind ourselves to breathe through our joys. And learn to explore what it means to be human. From creation to destruction it’s all valuable.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

To be honest I’m still fairly new in my journey of selling my jewelry, art and modeling collaborations on a frequent basis. I know when I push myself through my own discomforts and fears that come with putting myself out there. I’m met with enough success that leaves me feeling accomplished. I admit that I need guidance on advertising for more of a steady income in this field.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I’d love to collaborate with high fashion designers with either my modeling or jewelry designs. Both would be incredible. I’m looking for collaborations with more creative individuals who have a high-class, surreal story telling energy through their projects. Photographers, designers, artists, I’d be honored to be apart of any and all of it.
