We were lucky to catch up with Tia Fritz-Calhoun recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tia , thank you for joining us today and sharing your experiences and acquired wisdom with us. Burnout is a huge topic these days and so we’d love to kick things off by discussing your thoughts on overcoming or avoiding burnout
Retail Therapy! Whenever I’m on the verge I hit the internet and browse, browse, browse. Giant inflatable tube man for my office? Yes please! I’ve also mastered the art of the power nap. It’s a true power nap and not a coma nap. I set an alarm and wake up like a refreshing glass of H2O. Pretending to be zen has never hurt anyone. Namaste away.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Five years ago I decided to ditch the nine-to-five and step into my world, darling! I’m the co-founder of Trip Sales Inc., a multi-line showroom nestled in the heart of LA’s oh-so-fabulous Cooper Design Space. Think of me as your fairy godmother of fashion, introducing the everyday woman to brands that ignite a fire in her soul (and wardrobe).
By day, I curate collections that make her feel alive, elated, and ready to conquer the world. By night? Well, let’s just say I know how to spin a mean track and throw a rager or two that would make Studio 54 blush. Think of it as a fringe benefit (pun intended).
We’ve recently expanded our fabulous digs, and guess what? We’re seeking kindred spirits! Are you a brand that shares our passion for empowering women through fashion? Do you have a pulse on the latest trends and a touch of that je ne sais quoi? Then let’s chat – this fashion party is just getting started.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Buckle up, darlings, for a trip down memory lane with a twist of wisdom! Here are the three gems that paved the way for this wild ride of mine:
Fearless Vision (with a dash of healthy delusion): I saw a world where fashion wasn’t just about trends, but about igniting a fire in every woman. Maybe a tad outlandish at first, but hey, a little delusion is the fuel for big dreams, right?
Hustle with Heart (and Killer Heels): Building a business is a marathon, not a sprint. There were days I ran on fumes and fierce footwear, but the passion for empowering women through fashion kept me going (and those heels helped with the leg cramps).
The Art of the Pivot (and the Occasional Party Trick): The road to success is rarely a straight line. I learned to adapt, improvise, and maybe even bust out a party trick or two to navigate the unexpected turns.
Now, for you fabulous folks just starting your journey, listen up:
Dream Big, But Be Ready to Hustle: Don’t let fear clip your wings! Embrace that crazy vision, but remember, dreams don’t work unless you do. So, lace up your metaphorical heels and get ready to work it.
Find Your Tribe: Surround yourself with people who share your passion and believe in your magic. They’ll be your cheerleaders, your reality checks, and sometimes, even your emergency dance partners (because trust me, there will be dance breaks).
Embrace the Unexpected: Life throws curveballs, darling. Learn to pivot, laugh it off, and maybe even turn that unexpected turn into your next big opportunity. Remember, the most incredible journeys are rarely planned to the very last sequin.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
Girlboss” by Sophia Amoruso as a key influence. The book’s message of defying expectations, embracing hard work, and taking action even when things aren’t perfect resonated with all of us. It encouraged us to pursue our own unique path in the fashion world.
“Girlboss” wasn’t just a book, it was a permission slip to rewrite the rules, break the glass ceiling of the fashion industry, and do it all with a healthy dose of sass and a killer pair of boots. A must read!
