We were lucky to catch up with Tia Hart recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tia, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?
Self-care for me is journaling and meditation. I got back into journaling a year after I had my second son to gather my entrepreneur thoughts and also to help with my anxiety. All the changes that came with the blessings of motherhood was a wake up call & the best challenge I ever faced lol.
Focusing on my family and my health became my number one priority, and journaling was the first one I started with as the best way to get all my ideas and future goals organized. I used to journal alot in middle school so it was one of those things that came naturally to me. In general, writing has always been something that I did throughout my career. Before journaling, I expressed myself by writing for magazines, entertainment blogs, & I even had my own entertainment blog for a few years.
For me, journaling is personal, and being an entrepreneur comes with many hats, many tasks, and many ideas. Journaling is what helped me stay motivated in the beginning, as a new stay-at-home mom. Over time, it became a habit, and I started journaling to acknowledge my emotions throughout the day and used it to talk about the highlights of that day. Over the past few years, I taught myself the many forms of journaling from books and articles from psychologists. The more I learned, the more I knew that one day I would turn it into a form of service I could provide to help others.
The past 3 years, I have been into mindfulness and meditation. It started out as a way to cope with stress that would cause tension headaches and soon took me into mindfulness meditation. I studied and practiced virtually during the pandemic, met some great mentors and teachers, and recently became an Accredited Meditation Practitioner and Teacher.
Both of these activities are key to self-care, and little by little, I noticed the changes that took effect in the way I worked on campaigns and how I interacted with people.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My niche has always been to help others, and my career has successfully evolved around assisting people with their brands, businesses, talents, and even their ideas. As a Digital Marketing Engineer, I am often referred by people I have worked with in the past to others who are launching a new product or service. As an engineer in the field, I can not only help someone create a marketing plan or strategize with the plans they have, I’m a tech lover so I can help them build the system or systems they need to perform the marketing as well. I have been known as a Brand Manager and PR Professional in the past, depending on the services being rendered, and as I grew in my career, my skillsets leveled up & now i feel I can easily help just about anybody in any industry.
Fast forward to now, I got to a point where I decided I wanted to focus more on myself and doing something else that i love to do in my free time and created a way for people to join me. I asked myself, “how I could better help people and myself at the same time?” There was a point where I realized I was over working myself, homeschooling, and all the basic home tasks were done in between (let’s just say my laundry attacked me) and so once I started doing more of these self-care activities like journaling and meditation, a light bulb turned on brighter than ever before! I decided I was going to launch a new service with meditation for beginners in my business, Taylored Hart. I currently call it, “Mind, Body, & Hart.”.
Taylored Hart was primarily an online store where I customized sage wands or palo santo sticks, created spiritual water, curated journal prompts with my assistant Angelique, and even incorporated astrology into our social media activities. The new launch will be our first service based product, and I am launching it on the 5-year anniversary of when I launched the website, June 21.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Having patience, a dedication to your calendar (like Google Calendar), and something to focus on to give me motivation were my top three things that helped me accomplish what I was going after. The two most important, out of those three, that I feel would be needed for anyone looking to take on learning about meditation on their own or trying to build a habit of journaling is having patience and something to give you motivation.
The reason I consider patience an important quality and skill is because patience is not just about the time spent. Patience is also about the gratitude you show yourself along the journey. You may set a goal to finish something within 6 months but if not, you cannot be hard on yourself. You have to be patience with yourself and give yourself gratitude the same way you would give someone else. Focus on the steps you did take rather than the ones not taken yet. Always remember you chose the goal so you get to also choose when to reach that goal. You’ll get there.
How would you describe your ideal client?
When I decided to launch a service to help others learn about what I learned, there actually had been a few requests on my website from people looking for a meditation teacher in the past. I had several great experiences with a Facebook group, coaching people with daily journaling and affirmations for self-care and I figured, I could also help people the same way. So then I decided, if I wasn’t exactly what they were looking for, I would make sure I knew others in my local area that I could refer them to or at least have a way to help them find someone else.
My ideal client is a person curious about meditation or simply wanting to learn a laid back way to do it. Whether they are a beginner, a knowledgeable procrastinator, or an introvert that is hesitant to visit public places, I want to be able to help them find the right way to practice meditation. I expect to first have a consultation with a potential client to go over the different types of meditation and find out what they have already tried, what they did or didn’t like about it, and even setup some personal virtual meditation sessions to try out & find the ones that may interest them. Another option, is to help the potential client (that still wants to do it on their own) with the use of a guided App, but to have a trainer (myself) that could assign them videos on their choice of App or just makes sure they do it everyday- like a fitness trainer would.
