We were lucky to catch up with Tia Stevens recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tia, so great to have you with us today. There are so many topics we want to ask you about, but perhaps the one we can start with is burnout. How have you overcome or avoided burnout?
I feel like when your doing something that you truly love, there’s no way you can ever be “burnt out”. As someone who also balances a 9 to 5 job throughout the week, sometimes I wake up in the morning and I dread getting ready to go, but I never feel that way about going to take photos. It genuinely excites me to be able to create and use my talents to make other people happy.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a portrait photographer. Many professionals typically advise one to “niche down” and pick one area like maternity, graduation, or families, but I say why? Why put yourself in one box when the possibilities are endless? I photograph everyone from all ages and backgrounds and for many different reasons. I truly enjoy capturing the unique essence of individuals. No two people are exactly alike, and I make it my duty to accentuate that. I specialize in studio photography and creating unique compositions using photoshop, patience, and a lot of imagination. Through my lens, I not only capture striking visuals but also uncover my own identity with each passing day. Despite identifying as an introvert, I have grown to realize my true self through embracing connection and expression with people. I enjoy it all from the initial meeting to assuring comfortability and instilling confidence in each individual all the way through!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three important skills are definitely self awareness, adaptability, and confidence. My best advice is to be the best version of YOU that you can be! This is your life and nobody elses. Your only competition should be yourself. I have fallen victim time and time again to the number one thief of joy: comparison. I would look at what others were doing and think “why can’t I do that?” or “why aren’t people recognizing me?” when really the reason was because of me! Allow yourself to grow, give yourself grace, your time will come. Everything that is meant for you will be yours in divine timing.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am always looking to collaborate with individuals with modeling experience! I want to get into more concepts that push me to get super creative and think outside of the box.
