Meet Tia Tate

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tia Tate. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tia below.

Tia, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

Since I was younger, I always had this way about me where if I wanted something, I would make it happen. I always have big dreams and I never hesitated to follow them. As my dreams got larger so did my hustle. As you’re pushing forward, you hear a lot of people’s comments and what they think or how they think what you’re doing isn’t going to work. At first it would make me feel defeated. But then it just became a battery in my back and the negative, positive, and all the above comments made me go harder. Sometimes I have to prove myself to myself that what they’re saying is not true.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Everyone knows me as Spacekitty due to my brand Spacekitty Arts but not a lot of people know that my name is Tia Tate. I am a fashion designer. Although fashion designing is what I’m known for I am a multifaceted creative. I grew up in Maryland majority of my life. I was a typical kid really…At least I thought I was. I remember being younger and always talking about a business plan or how to make some money. I was always being told “the way you think you’ll be rich when you’re older”. I started my brand a little after COVID ended. I started off just selling paintings and drawings that I created. Then I sat and I thought, how can I become timeless.. how can I become eternal? FASHION! I love fashion and I know I have a few pieces that I always thought “wow, If I have a daughter, I really want to give this to her.” And that was my light bulb moment. I wanted to create fashion pieces that can be passed down within families and generations and live forever.. Professionally speaking I am focused on expanding my brand to the largest capacity that I can at this current moment. I want to travel to Milan, Paris, New York to pursue a larger platform for my brand. I am dropping new clothing soon that cater to men and woman. Men deserve to look amazing as well!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

As I grew my brand I would always stay in my field (fashion marketing) to learn to expand. I worked at so many different businesses with different styles. This stuck with me. They help me develop my skills. My knowledge for creativity and my love to help creatives within the community pushes me to go harder. People that are just starting out with their brands or creative journeys should not let anyone tell them whats next, make sure you follow your gut. Dont be scared to say No. Make sure you are your authentic self. Give that piece of you to the world and it will reward you.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I’m always looking for talented creators and individuals that I can collaborate with or even make a part of my team. I am currently building a team for my brand and I’m highly aware that to a certain degree you can’t do everything by yourself. I’m at that level where I know I have to seek outside assistant to prevail. It’s time to level up and draw in a creative, in business-minded team. If anyone is introduced you can reach me on my Instagram mainly @Spacekittyarts or email me [email protected]
