Meet Tiana Marcano

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tiana Marcano . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Tiana , thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.
I think I naturally had generosity from a young age, I actually had to learn to have discernment in which individuals I can be generous with since people took advantage of that. From a young age I was always giving things to my friends, family, and teachers. I’m definitely a gift giver. Something I used to do in elementary school on Valentine’s day was to create Valentine’s day cards for everyone in my class so no one felt left out on that day and felt special and loved. It would literally be a small cute card with a lollipop on it; although it may be perceived as something small it meant a lot to people believe it or not.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Yes of course I can! I’m more known for my modeling work but I am also a Fashion Stylist and Actress. I channel ethereal surrealism through my work as a model and Actress. I first was intrigued by the Fashion Industry when I was a kid actually after watching the tv show “Bratz” which propelled me to explore Fashion design and Modeling initially. I’ve kind of always been surrounded by the creative arts since I was a kid since I did Ballet, I’ve done theater work when I was in elementary school, and I started modeling when I was 10 years old. The most exhilarating thing about being a Model, Actress and Fashion Stylist I would say is having your work being utilized as a tool to empower, heal, and transform people’s perspectives on things. I didn’t fully realize the impact I was having on people until an acquaintance of mine shared with me that they were ready to give up within their modeling career until they saw my work as a model. Which inspired her to keep going forward within her career. I had shared with her that there were many times within my life where I wanted to give up wholeheartedly. What pushed me to keep going was this quote I read where it was fundamentally saying that when you deny the world of your gifts you’re denying those that you’re supposed to meet, assist, impact, etc. I’m so grateful to those people who shared with me their intimate experiences in how I impacted them since they truly blessed me with awareness on how powerful art can be. It also gave me the awareness on how I impact people which I honestly couldn’t fathom since from my perspective I was just creating art and just being me. There are a couple of new projects and work on the way that I can’t fully discuss at the moment. American Vogue did publish an article of my Summer Style Guide this past summer which I was beyond elated and insanely grateful for especially towards Ryan and Hannah. I found out recently that some work I did for Stila Cosmetics a year ago can now be seen on the Nordstrom, Editorialist, Revolve, Modesens, Nigel beauty website.
I have been recently working with more sustainable and ethical brands such as sentient and Maui x Lolita which I’m thrilled about since this is my first time working with a brand and designer that are actively helping the environment in a stylish manner which I adore.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Ooh that’s a good question! I would say Awareness, Discernment, and Will were the three qualities that were most impactful in my journey. In order to take action in life you need the awareness of what’s going on, what’s being presented to you, and what action you need to take in order to have a desirable outcome in your endeavor. I would say I had a certain level of awareness from a young age but I did want to further develop it when I was a teenager. So I did Zen meditations, Transcendental meditations, Yoga, and breath work which all helped me to increase my awareness in general. I used to go to a Buddhist temple back when I was 16 since they had group meditations they were holding once a week and I found it easier to start with group meditations which then gave me the confidence to meditate on my own at home. Discernment is a huge one since you kind of need it for every decision in life. In order to have discernment you must have awareness and wisdom. Wisdom can come in many forms. It can be your intuition when you get that gut feeling something was going to happen and you ignore it to then figure out what you were feeling was right all along. Wisdom comes from experience either from your own experience or the experiences of others that were kind enough to share their experience with you so you don’t take a similar path as them in which they may have messed up. Will is a major one since in order to do anything in life you must have the will to do so. Will is a tricky one to develop but I noticed times when I was low on Will I would do activities or things that ignited that will again even if it was temporary. For instance working out either doing Pilates or Yoga for me always ignited more will within me and right after my workout I would start my daily list of what I had to do.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I’m always open to collaborating with brands, individuals, designers, etc. I would say the type of people I’m in search of are definitely more conscious individuals. More Empathetic, Creative, Fun, Joyous, Meticulous, Innovative, and kind hearted. If anyone wants to reach out to me check out my social media and websites for more information.
