We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tiana Moore. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tiana below.
Hi Tiana, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
By connecting with my true self! This takes time, lot of trial and error, making mistakes, and sitting in the uncomfortable. You have to get comfortable being uncomfortable and for me that was asking myself what truly made me happy and it was a hard question to answer. When I finally figured out that I had never prioritized MY happiness before, I made an effort to explore how to do that by taking care of my physical and mental health.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Hi! I am Tiana Moore, the General Manager and head Pilates Instructor at In Balance Pilates. After being a fitness obsessed gym bunny for seven years, I realized that my true passion was not in my field of study, but in fitness. It was the only thing I found myself taking about, watching videos about, and investing in. I decided to invest further and become a Pilates instructor, take a leap of faith, and leave my government job.
My true passion is in making my clients feel stronger and more confident. I teach intense, fitness focused, pilates classes that require focus, discipline, and a sense of humor. My classes leave you feeling sweaty, elated, and more and more connected to your inner sense of strength.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The most important tips I give to apprentice instructors are to build your confidence, ask questions, and teach classes that you want to take. In order to build your confidence you have to do the homework and really dive into the background of Pilates. Start at the beginning and work your way to current best practices. If something that you are taught in your teaching training doesn’t make sense, ask questions; and to the end, it’s ok to admit when you don’t know something. We are instructors, not doctors. I tell all the new instructors to take a variety of fitness classes from Pilates, yoga, spin, strength and figure out what they did or did not like about those classes and how they felt afterwards. Use those same qualities to build an experience for your clients that will leave them feeling connected to you!
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My parents made me earn almost everything and that created a huge impact on my work ethic and what I place value on. At 15 I had to walk into a place of business, ask to speak to the hiring manager, shake his hand and give him a pitch about why I would be the best clerk they ever hired. Once I got the job, I had to walk to work, save up the money, and buy my own car and so on. I didn’t go without and I felt supported but, I always felt challenged and I think that gave me the tenacity to overcome every obstacle in my way.
