Tianna, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic is a testament to my journey, rooted in the very things I once lacked but am now determined to embrace in my world. My path has been far from paved with privilege; I didn’t inherit wealth, nor did I have the advantage of affluent parents. Instead, I embarked on a path defined by grit, determination, and a fierce commitment to transform my circumstances.
Growing up, I witnessed the disparity between what I aspired to and what my reality dictated. It was within this gap that my drive ignited – a resolute fire to bridge the chasm between dreams and reality. This journey has been about more than just business; it’s been about rewriting the narrative of my life.
With every sunrise, I wake up propelled by the vision of a future that transcends my past. The shadows of scarcity that once haunted me have fueled a tireless pursuit of excellence. I’ve learned that success isn’t simply handed down; it’s crafted through unyielding perseverance, a commitment to continuous growth, and a willingness to seize opportunities where others might see obstacles.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I believe my biggest skill set was knowing how to handle my own public relations for my brand, marketing, and building relationships with people. When I first launched CosignedByGod in July 2021, I gained traction rapidly due to the designs, the brand’s motive, and the fact that we were bridging the gap between faith and fashion. I’ve been immersed in entrepreneurship for over 10 years. Throughout those years, I developed various methods to scale my brand by creating a tailored and sensible plan. All the mistakes I made were during my earlier years of entrepreneurship. Through trial and error, I eventually mastered brand authenticity by employing groundbreaking public relations strategies.
I remember researching the process of hiring a PR agency to represent my brand, but the costs didn’t align. I chose to invest in my knowledge and learn how to master the process myself. I observed that the majority of business owners launch their brands without any PR strategy, causing them to miss out on the advantages of effective PR representation. I proved to myself that I didn’t need to hire a PR firm to do the work for me; instead, I accomplished the work with the guidance of God.
In this process, I taught myself how to craft a successful pitch, structure a pitch correctly, find publication connections, forge partnerships, and uncover significant opportunities overall. My passion for public relations remains profound to this day. It’s a skill that was essential for my brand’s growth, and I’m grateful to God for this skill set.
In the first month of business, I was featured in Guap Magazine (UK-based) and Houstonian Magazine. By the second month, I garnered recognition from Houston’s Mayor, Sylvester Turner, and secured features in Forbes magazine, Refinery 29, along with several other magazines. As the months progressed, I nurtured partnerships and collaborated with notable brands such as BET Stellar Awards, BET, BET Her, NBA, as well as celebrity endorsements from Jidenna, Tye Tribbett, and many other prominent figures. Additionally, I forged significant industry connections. My success story is a beautiful journey, as I rooted my brand in adversity and rose through experience.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
Absolutely, we all encounter temporary challenges – a fundamental facet of the tapestry of life. I wholeheartedly believe that these experiences contribute to the profound beauty of existence. Let me share more about that below, as I am convinced that my journey can offer insight to many who might face similar challenges.
In June of 2023, I learned that I had a Vitamin D deficiency based on my bloodwork. Operating my business indoors, I often missed out on sunlight. Research has shown that people with darker skin tones, like mine, are more prone to Vitamin D deficiency due to skin pigmentation.
This phase brought some of the most challenging symptoms I’ve faced, including fatigue, sadness, mood swings, depression, and body aches – all common signs of Vitamin D deficiency. In March of the same year, I even experienced suicidal thoughts and feelings of hopelessness. It was eventually revealed that the Vitamin D deficiency was causing my unexplained depression.
Sharing this part of my journey is important to me, as it’s a common issue that can affect anyone. Each day, I’m making progress by getting more sunlight, taking Vitamin D supplements, and adjusting my diet to raise my levels to normal.
My goal now is to help others by offering my insights and experiences. I believe that understanding and addressing Vitamin D deficiency can make a significant difference in overall well-being.
