Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tiara Johnson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Tiara, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I get my work ethic from my mother. She was such a go-getter. She taught me how to go and get it, no matter what. I remember her telling me if I wanted anything out of life that I had to work hard for it. She also told me that there were no short cuts in life. If you take short cuts in life, life will eventually cut you short. I didn’t want anything for a short period of time. I wanted what was for me for the long haul. So I worked hard for it. Till this day, my strategy is coming up with various ways on how to obtain something that I have a desire for. I can remember when I wanted to become the biggest motivational speaker in the DMV area, but I wasn’t sure if it would happen. I would go and speak at events, and I would always think did I say the right thing? Did I enunciate and articulate. Did my story touch the crowd. I would really look for 5 events to speak at every month. I mean I really went hard! lol! Some would say yes, and some would say no. The no’s would sting, but I didn’t allow that to deter me from reaching my goal of speaking. When the doors seemed as if they weren’t opening for me anymore I created my own events. My goal was to create the table that I was so desperately seeking to be part of. During the pandemic when the world shut down, I started to look for virtual events, and I spoke at events that spoke to me and my industry in which I had expertise in. Now that the world has opened back up I have definitely develop[ed a new strategy. The new strategy is, my lane is my lane and I don’t have to speak at every event to be recognized. What God has for me is FOR ME! I have replaced Quantity for Quality. I have exchanged working hard for working smarter. And the reward has been very beneficial. The reward has been so amazing. There was a time in this world that I struggled to find my footing, I have now found my purpose.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
So my name is Tiara Johnson, affectionately known as Tiara J. I am a motivational speaker of 11 years, as well as an entrepreneur of 9 years. I am an award winning Best Selling Author, Creative Director, Entrepreneur, CEO/Founder of the Tiara J Brand LLC, but most importantly, a mother of 1 amazing beautiful girl. My mission in life is to help the next woman win.
I’ve curated many events and women led organizations such as Women with Vision, Her Seat at the Table, and her annual women’s conference Am I Ready?
In 2014, I started a women’s empowerment organization called Women with Vision where she deducted time and speaking life back into women after she noticed how her generation had given up on love. Since then, I’ve won many awards, spoken at events, conferences, interviewed on podcast, co-authored an anthology, and helped women find their purpose, voice, and their vision. In 2020, I was the award recipient of the D.C. Mayor’s Arts Award for Visionary Leadership.
My many events, speaking engagements, and interviews all involve women’s empowerment and shaping the minds of our youth to have a clear path for the next steps in life. I am currently working on expanding her brand and vision for even more to win at life, love and the leadership of tomorrow.
My organizations are founded on love, support, unity, and women’s empowerment. My mission is to empower today’s woman to reach greater heights for tomorrow’s world.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
If I had to say the three qualities that impacted my journey would be Creativity, Problem- solving, Decision-making, and Confidence. I threw in another one for some dazzle dazzle! lol I would say give yourself grace when you’re growing into the person that you were always meant to be. Continue to practice your craft day in and day out. Never loose faith or sight on your goals, visions, and dreams.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Of course! I am looking forward to collaborating with like-minded entrepreneurial boss women that can work with me and provide optimal opportunities and content for other entrepreneurs alike for work in the future.
