Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tiayana Logan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Tiayana , really appreciate you opening up about a very personal topic with the hopes that it can help someone out there who might be going through it. What can you share with us about your journey with postpartum depression and how you overcame PPD? For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.
Postpartum depression is often described as something you “overcome,” but in my experience, especially as a Black woman, that isn’t the full truth. I didn’t wake up one day suddenly healed. What I experienced was a journey of learning to name what I was feeling, giving myself permission to seek support, and slowly rebuilding my sense of self while caring for a new life.
As Black and minority women, we are rarely given the tools, resources, or safe spaces ahead of time to understand postpartum depression, let alone navigate it. For a long time, I didn’t even realize that what I was going through had a name. I carried things quietly because that’s what many of us are conditioned to do, push through, be strong, hold it all together. But what actually helped me heal was allowing myself to be human. I leaned on the few supports I did have, I asked for help even when it felt uncomfortable, and I learned to take small steps toward my own wellness while still being present for my child.
That journey is one of the reasons Legacy Rise Academy exists. My healing made me realize how deeply families need more than childcare, they need community, access, information, and resources that meet them where they are. At Legacy Rise Academy, our vision is not just to serve children but to serve the entire ecosystem that surrounds them. We want to be a place where families can get support early, without shame, without barriers, and without having to wait until they’re in crisis.
So while I don’t see postpartum depression as something I simply “overcame,” I do see it as something that reshaped me. It taught me empathy, patience, and the importance of creating spaces where mothers, especially Black mothers, are seen, supported, and never left to navigate the hardest moments alone.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
What I’m building with Legacy Rise Academy is so much bigger than a school, it’s a movement centered on early learning, family empowerment, and community care. Professionally, I focus on creating high-quality educational experiences for young children while also supporting the adults who raise them. I’ve spent two decades working in school operations, systems design, founding schools, and community development, and I saw firsthand how often families, especially Black and minority families, are left without the resources, access, and support they need to thrive.
Legacy Rise Academy was born from that gap. We are launching in Henry County as an early learning center that blends strong academic foundations with whole-family support. What makes our work exciting is that we’re not just preparing children for kindergarten, we’re building a resource hub that gives families access to tools, workshops, connections, and wraparound support that many of us wish we had when we first entered parenthood.
Our model is designed to honor culture, uplift resilience, and remove barriers that keep families from receiving high-quality care and education. From our legacy-themed curriculum to our commitment to community partnerships, every part of Legacy Rise Academy is rooted in creating generational impact.
Right now, we’re in an exciting phase of growth as we prepare to open our doors. We are actively fundraising, building partnerships, and laying the foundation for expanded services, from parent workshops to weekend enrichment programs and family resource events. Our mission is simple but powerful: to build bright futures by supporting children and the families who love them.
Legacy Rise Academy is where education, community, and legacy meet—and I’m proud to be building something that will stand for generations to come.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
When I look back on my journey, the qualities and values that shaped me most align directly with the five core Legacy Pillars that guide our work at Legacy Rise Academy. These pillars reflect who we are, what we believe in, and the type of world we’re building for children and families. Our pillars are: Community, Creativity, Learning, Leadership, Legacy.
While all five matter deeply, the three that have been most transformative in my personal and professional journey are Community, Leadership, and Legacy.
1. Community – because nothing great is built alone. Community shaped me long before I ever had language for it. As a mother, an educator, and a founder, I’ve learned how essential it is to have people who support you, uplift you, and walk with you. Community reminds us that we don’t have to carry everything alone, and that our strength is multiplied when we move together. My advice: invest in your relationships, communicate as much as you can, collaborate often, and stay connected to the people who ground and inspire you.
2. Leadership – stepping into the future you want to create. What I’ve learned is that leadership isn’t about titles; it’s about responsibility, courage, and service. My leadership has been shaped by moments when I had to trust myself, make hard decisions, and choose growth even when it felt uncomfortable. For those early in their journey: lead before you feel ready. Your voice, your vision, and your presence matter more than you think.
3. Legacy – building something bigger than yourself. Legacy is the heartbeat of everything I do. It’s the understanding that our choices today shape opportunities for generations after us. Becoming a mother made this even more real for me — my work is not just about the present but about what my son, and children everywhere, will inherit. My advice: think long-term. Ask yourself what impact you want to leave behind, and let that guide your steps.
Together, these three pillars, Community, Leadership, and Legacy, reflect the foundation of who I am and the foundation of Legacy Rise Academy. They remind me that the work I’m doing is not just about building a school; it’s about building a movement that helps families rise, thrive, and create generational change.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Yes ! we are actively looking to partner and collaborate with individuals and organizations who believe in the power of early learning, family support, and community-centered growth. As Legacy Rise Academy prepares to open, one of our biggest priorities is building a strong network around our mission.
We are especially looking to connect with:
• Development specialists and fundraisers
People who have experience fundraising for startups, early childhood programs, or community-based initiatives. We welcome support in building sustainable funding streams, strengthening our capital campaign, and expanding our donor base.
• Experts who understand the unique landscape of early education startups
Professionals who can help us navigate growth, strategy, and long-term planning as we establish ourselves in Henry County.
• Community partners and local organizations
We are excited to collaborate with groups hosting events, volunteer opportunities, family programs, or community outreach. Whether it’s tabling at an event, co-hosting a workshop, or supporting local initiatives, partnership is central to who we are.
At Legacy Rise Academy, partnership is more than collaboration, it is a reflection of our Pillar of Community. We believe that strong relationships help families thrive, and we welcome anyone who wants to build with us.
If you are reading this and feel aligned with our mission, I would love to connect. You can reach me directly at [provide email] or through our website and social platforms.
Together, we can build something truly meaningful for children and families in our community.
