Over the years, after speaking with countless do-ers, makers, builders, entrepreneurs, artists and more we’ve noticed that the ability to take risks is central to almost all stories of triumph and so we’re really interested in hearing about your journey with risk and how you developed your risk-taking ability.
When I first ventured into the world of event planning, I quickly realized that success in this industry required more than just creativity and organization—it demanded the ability to take calculated risks. One of the pivotal moments in my career that honed this skill was when I decided to organize my first large-scale luxury wedding.
At that time, Tica Rose Events was relatively new, and while we had a few successful smaller events under our belt, we had never tackled anything of this magnitude. The opportunity came when a high-profile client approached us to plan a wedding that would not only be a grand celebration but also a showcase of cutting-edge design and innovation.
The stakes were high. The client’s expectations were enormous, and the event needed to be flawless. Despite the pressure, I saw this as a golden opportunity to elevate my brand and prove our capabilities. I knew that playing it safe would not suffice; I had to step out of my comfort zone and take some bold decisions.
One of the biggest risks was the venue. The client wanted an outdoor wedding at a newly opened estate, which had never hosted an event of this scale before. The venue’s untested nature posed a significant risk, but its breathtaking scenery and unique charm were too perfect to pass up. I decided to take the plunge, believing in my team’s ability to transform the space and manage any unforeseen challenges.
Another risk was incorporating avant-garde design elements that had never been used in our events before. From custom-built structures to intricate floral installations, the design plan was ambitious. I collaborated closely with my vendors, pushing their creative boundaries while ensuring we had contingency plans in place for every possible scenario.
The day of the wedding was filled with adrenaline and anticipation. As guests arrived and were mesmerized by the stunning setup, I felt a mix of relief and pride. The event went off without a hitch, and the client was overjoyed. This experience was a turning point for Tica Rose Events. It not only solidified our reputation for delivering exceptional luxury events but also taught me the value of taking risks.
Through this journey, I learned that taking risks is essential for growth. It involves stepping into the unknown with confidence, trusting your skills and your team, and being prepared to adapt and overcome challenges. Each risk I’ve taken since then has been informed by that initial leap of faith, and it has shaped Tica Rose Events into the premier event planning company it is today.

It’s an opportunity for us to connect with our community, celebrate the beauty of summer, and provide a glimpse into the magic we can create.
But beyond the events themselves, what truly excites me is the relationships we build with our clients. Being part of their significant life moments, understanding their stories, and bringing their visions to life is an incredibly rewarding experience. Reflecting on my journey with Tica Rose Events, there are three qualities that have been most impactful: creativity, resilience, and relationship-building. These qualities have not only shaped my career but also the success of my business.
Here’s why they are crucial and how you can develop them if you’re just starting out:
The impact of creativity is the cornerstone of event planning. It allows us to design unique, memorable experiences that stand out. Our clients come to us for our innovative ideas and the ability to transform their visions into reality.
I would say to stay Inspired; constantly seek inspiration from various sources such as art, nature, fashion, and architecture.
Resilience in the event planning industry is filled with unexpected challenges. Resilience is essential to navigate these obstacles, learn from setbacks, and continue moving forward. It’s about staying calm under pressure and finding solutions quickly. Embrace the challenges, view them as opportunities to grow. Each problem you solve makes you stronger and more experienced.
And, Relationship-Building, a strong relationship with your clients, vendors, and team members are crucial. These relationships are built on trust, communication, and mutual respect. They lead to better collaboration, smoother events, and long-term success. Always communicate your ideas, expectations, and feedback clearly. Good communication prevents misunderstandings and builds trust.
Starting out in any industry can be daunting, but focusing on developing these key qualities can set you on the path to success. Be patient with yourself and remember that growth takes time. Keep learning, stay resilient, and always nurture your creativity and relationships.
