We recently connected with Tierra O’Neal and have shared our conversation below.
Tierra, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us today. We’re excited to dive into your story and your work, but first let’s start with a broader topic that might be stopping many of our readers from pursuing their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. How have you managed to persist despite haters and nay-sayers that inevitably follow folks who are doing something unique, special or off the beaten path?
Persisting despite haters and nay-sayers can be challenging but it’s definitely achievable with the right mindset and environment.
In order for me to persist, I focus on my goals by keeping them clear and in front of me. I believe when you have a strong sense of purpose, negative opinions can become background noise rather than obstacles. Finding your purpose can be hard. It took me a while to understand my purpose and I refuse to let anyone steer me wrong. I also make sure to keep building my resilience by finding healthy ways to manage my stress and feelings of defeat. I also remain positive and consistent. I choose to focus on the positive aspects of my journey and practice gratitude for what I’ve achieved so far. Of course, I have my bad days, but I never sit in that place for too long and I stay surrounded by people who love and support me. Persistence is key! I keep taking small steps towards my goals consistently, even when faced with setbacks or criticism. I also focus on my personal growth while always believing in myself. As you grow stronger and more confident in yourself, external negativity will have less impact on your journey. I trust in my abilities and strengths. I remind myself of what I’ve accomplished in so far and use that as motivation to keep moving forward.
The most important thing is that I keep God first in all that I do. Knowing that he has my back gives me all the courage I need to get through anything.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Growing up, I’ve always loved practicing my video editing skills and it wasn’t until after I graduated with my Bachelor’s in Business Management that I turned my skills into my very first business. My business started as HeavenlyErra Edits LLC. where I created YouTube Intros, Slideshows, and more. Since then, I’ve been able to learn more skills outside of video editing and become exposed to more opportunities and room for overall growth. One major opportunity was working with a Grammy Award Winning Celebrity Recording Artist for years as an assistant and traveling content creator where I did videography, photography and video editing. This journey inspired me to expand my business and services outside of video editing. In May of 2024, I decided to change my business to HeavenlyErra Media LLC. where I offer video editing and content creation services as well as helpful tools for those who are interested in learning how to edit. In the future, I would like to offer more services and the opportunity to work in production. This makes me super excited! Whether you have a YouTube Channel and need help being consistent, need help with being consistent with your social media content, need raw footage edited or need a personal content person, I can help!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back on my journey, Resilience, Adaptability and Effective Communication were the three qualities/skills/knowledge areas that were most impactful.
Resilience in the face of setbacks and the ability to solve challenging problems have been critical. Being able to navigate challenges, learn from failures, and persist in achieving goals are key qualities. Build resilience by looking at setbacks as learning opportunities.
The ability to adapt to new technologies and market demands etc. have been very important in my journey and embracing a mindset of lifelong learning. I always stay updated with industry trends, take courses, attend workshops, and seek mentors who can provide guidance and insight. Actively seek out learning opportunities beyond your current role or formal education. Stay curious about advancements in your field and be proactive in acquiring new skills. You have to want to evolve!
Clear and persuasive communication has been essential in building relationships and creating collaboration. Practice communication in various forms whether it’s written, verbal, or digital. Seek feedback to improve your clarity and impact. Develop empathy to understand others’ perspectives and enhance your ability to influence and inspire.
If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
I recently moved to California from Georgia and essentially, I’m starting over with building relationships and finding opportunities. This would be my current challenge but I’m grateful for the opportunities that I’ve had here so far and I’m going to continue to remain positive and strive for more. I know I can do it.
