Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tiffany Bean. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tiffany, so great to have you on the platform and excited to have you share your wisdom with our community today. Communication skills often play a powerful role in our ability to be effective and so we’d love to hear about how you developed your communication skills.
I think this comes from several factors. We moved around a lot growing up so I’m used to being in a room where I don’t know anyone and it doesn’t bother me the way it does most people. I’ve learned how to approach people and make them feel comfortable right off since I have had to do it most of my life. I think it’s important to involve a little humor in communication to help everyone know your being light hearted and is an easy and open space. I also think it’s important to stick to topics that apply to most people in the room. I get really frustrated when there’s a large group and someone asks a specific question that will only pertain to them. I think it’s important to respect everyone’s time and ask questions that most people may experience and then get a one on one conversation for those very niche questions that won’t benefit everyone.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a Realtor in Houston, Texas. I live in Cypress, a suburb just to the west of Houston and help clients all over the NW part of the city and suburbs. I get most excited helping buyers find their dream home. This is just a fun time for all involved! I love seeing homes, especially unique ones, and helping the buyer figure out what would be the perfect fit for them or their family. There are a lot of really stressful parts to my job but working with nice people to accomplish their goals is what I love. And I’ve learned over the years that most people will be honest and work with you if they realize from the beginning that you are trying your best to make it work for everyone involved. I think theres a misconception that negotiating has to be angry. I’ve negotiated a ton of times in a positive way and we tend to accomplish more for all parties!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think the most impactful aspect of my journey was joining a large team to start that trained me really well and also made me do a ton of appointments all the time! I now have a huge portfolio of past clients that refer me. It was a really hard first 5 years trying to accomplish all that was asked of me (I was doing 50-70 transactions a year!) But now I have this huge list of people that know how hard I work and refer me to their friends or family that usually takes a realtor 2 to 3 times as long to build so that was the absolute best decision and it happened by accident!
I spend an hour or two each morning researching the markets, housing and stocks so that I’m up to date on where the market is and can advise my clients with the most current knowledge. I feel this helps me tremendously. I have always seemed to operate a little ahead of the curve. Back when I designed clothes, I’d tend to create a design a year before anyone was ready for it. A year later it would be a hit, but I tend to do things early. This comes in really handy for real estate and noticing trends so we can mark homes down or write offers before the market is too hard to break into. Doesn’t always work out but tends to!
The most important skill by far is just caring for others. This business can be very rough, lots of hard things happen and lots of hard conversations have to happen, but if your clients know that you really care about what is best for them, it makes it all a lot easier and helps them know that you are coming from a place of care no matter what the information is. Unfortunately, I’m in an industry that has a lot of people in it just to make money that don’t really care about the clients, it’s important to me that my clients know that I do this because I love helping others.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
Ninja Selling!!! By far!! I read this book and was like “I already do all this!” So, it was very validating to me and has helped me train other agents to focus on the heart of real estate instead of the money of it. It really breaks down how important it is to stay in touch with your clients, keep them informed and just share items of value whenever you can. I love this approach and it’s how I’ve ran my business from the start.
