We were lucky to catch up with Tiffany Critton recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tiffany, appreciate you sitting with us today. Maybe we can start with a topic that we care deeply about because it’s something we’ve found really sets folks apart and can make all the difference in whether someone reaches their goals. Self discipline seems to have an outsized impact on how someone’s life plays out and so we’d love to hear about how you developed yours?
It comes from consistency, practice, and changing my mindset. I established daily routines and habits that I stuck to consistently. I know that in order to reach specific goals, I must practice delayed gratification and accept that I do not need to have everything I desire immediately, basically telling myself no. By doing this, I am aware that a greater reward awaits me in the future. Also, after eliminating certain distractions, my impulses and desires shifted, as I am no longer swayed or tempted by others. I spent nearly a year without watching television. I do not binge-watch any series, and I am unaware of the latest movies. I do not follow new music or trends. Once I eliminated all of those distractions, I was able to maintain focus, and now it has become my way of life.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I specialize in creating desserts, particularly ice cream, for which I have received an award for. I am well-known for my unique flavors in both ice cream and pound cakes. I offer a variety of flavors that cannot be found elsewhere. All of my products are crafted by me personally; I do not utilize any fancy machinery or have a team. It is solely me working in the kitchen. I refrain from using artificial flavorings or fillers, instead opting to create my flavors from scratch with genuine ingredients. When I am not engaged in the kitchen, I dedicate my time to community service. I volunteer with organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, Meals on Wheels, and a few others. Recently, I have started teaching young children how to bake, as it is helps with their cognitive development, enhances their creativity, and fosters their confidence. I think it’s super important to give back to society, and playing a part in shaping our future leaders can be really rewarding.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Patience, Emotional Intelligence, and Gratitude.
Having patience is crucial since things are meant to unfold at their own pace. We might not know when that is, but the Universe certainly does. While we wait, it’s essential to keep honing our skills because when the right moment arrives, we’ll be prepared. A lot of folks dream of jumping straight from entry-level jobs to being the CEO of a multi-million dollar company in no time. But honestly, if you were handed a multi-million dollar company right now, it would likely fail because you lack the skills and mindset needed to manage something that big.
Gratitude rewires our brain to focus on the positive. How can we want more if we aren’t thankful for what we currently have? To really value a lot, you need to appreciate the small things you have right now. When comparing yourself to others, it’s tough to see the value in what you possess because you’re too busy thinking about what you lack and what others have. Not being grateful can seriously delay your opportunities
Lacking emotional intelligence leads to impulsive actions and poor decision-making. When you respond with aggression, it complicates the process of establishing relationships and networking. It is essential to be capable of accepting criticism without taking offense easily. Not everyone will like or appreciate you, and that is perfectly fine. Concentrate on those who do value you. Imagine how much more peaceful the world would be if individuals stop taking offense at every little thing. Not every comment warrants a reply. Understand how to enhance the value of silence.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
Practicing self-care and being intentional. Engaging in activities that solely enhance my overall well-being. Establishing boundaries and restricting the access that individuals have to me. Only doing things that bring me joy rather than out of a sense of obligation. Saying no more frequently without providing an explanation to spare the feelings of others. Simply stating no, plain and simple. No explanation needed.
