We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tiffany Davis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tiffany below.
Tiffany, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I stopped comparing myself to anyone else. I no longer cared what milestones others had reached or goals they had accomplished. I only focused on what I was doing, and what made me happy. Once you realize there is plenty for everyone, and you stop competing with others, you open yourself up to much more success. That bolsters confidence and you start to view yourself much differently than before. You have to know that everyone is figuring out life and their careers, and you deserve to be on top as much as anyone else. Love yourself, be kind to yourself, speak lovingly to yourself, and work extremely hard. If you act as if you have confidence … you will realize it’s no longer an act in a very short time!
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am Co-founder and President of Quay Entertainment. Quay (pronounced KEY) specializes in entertainment projects of all types, and we have a stellar reputation as a premier large event producer. We have collaborated with many global artists on some of the most high profile events in the world such as the Olympic Games, Super Bowl, Academy of Country Music Awards, Multi-day Festivals, and the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix to name a few.
I have a passion for teaching and nurturing careers. I have mentored countless indie artists and young professionals, helping them navigate the scary waters of the entertainment industry.
I have recorded some of my most popular topics, and will be launching a video series so the information can be shared with young artists and professionals across the world. Follow me on Instagram @therealtiffanydavis to be the first to know about the series!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Having a strong work ethic, an understanding that you don’t know it all (or much), and showing up as the best version of yourself are three things I know helped me, and opened many doors. Successful people want to help those coming up if they feel it is worth their time. They have to know you will work hard, and not waste their efforts. Staying humble and learning from veterans in your industry as well as peers is invaluable, and always showing up ready to work impresses those who can make things happen for you!
The best way to develop these is to meet with as many people as you can, develop your communication and networking skills, and create meaningful relationships. Relationships are the most important part of business. Nurture them, and protect them.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
I had a mentor who would always say, “There’s a solution to everything.” We worked on several projects together, and anytime I was feeling stressed he would remind me of that. It immediately calmed me down. I say it to myself almost daily still, 20 years later. It’s true in your career and your life. Take a deep breath, get into a calm state of mind, and tell yourself there’s a solution to everything. Even if that’s all you can do in the moment, and you have no idea what the solution is, it will help you relax and it will remind you that you will overcome your challenge. Typically, after saying that to myself, I sleep on whatever the problem is, and I wake up with at least one if not a few solutions. It has drastically reduced my stress levels, and saved me hours of feeling overwhelmed. I’ve also used it during live events when something does not go as planned. It immediately clears my head so I can think fast and come up with a solution. Panicking never helps a situation.
