We recently connected with Tiffany Dion and have shared our conversation below.
Tiffany, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
My confidence journey is one that is still ongoing, but embracing creativity and following what keeps me inspired has made me feel the most secure in myself. It started when I found my personal style and started experimenting with makeup. Putting together a look without caring about how someone else will perceive it. A RuPaul quote I live by is “What other people think of me is none of my business.” It’s also so important to find community with others who uplift you for the things that make you unique. When I started presenting myself to the world in a way that felt most authentic to myself, the right people came into my life and my confidence bloomed. Those who don’t see the vision can simply look away!
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I started pursuing acting in film and television when I was 8 years old. Some of my favorite projects include “NCIS” and Investigation Discovery’s “Betrayed”. I also work freelance as a content creator and social media manager.
I didn’t want to have to choose between pursuing my dreams and enjoying my day job. After working 9-5’s that left me feeling drained and uninspired, I’m so grateful to be in a creative line of work that I’m passionate about. The flexibility of working in social media allows me to continue auditioning and working on my craft.
Working in social media for queer nightlife has been my favorite job to date. I’ve met so many amazing people who inspire me constantly. Drag queens are some of the most creative and empowering artists on the planet, and it is such a joy to watch them shine on stage each week.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I believe resilience, determination, and passion are some of the most important qualities to possess when pursuing a creative career. There is so much rejection and competition in the field. Artists are a sensitive breed and it’s so important to not let rejection or disappointments define your worth. Being passionate and loving what you do makes it all worth it.
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
I’ve learned that the circumstances don’t need to be perfectly in place before you go after what you want. I feel like for a while I was putting off pursuing creative avenues I was passionate about out of fear of making mistakes. One of my favorite quotes is by Amy Poehler: “Great people do things before they’re ready. They do things before they know they can do it.” Letting go of the fear of making mistakes has been such an integral part of my creative and professional journey.
