We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tiffany Greene a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tiffany , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
My confidence and self-esteem was instilled in me by my parents. From a young age they could see that I had talent and they immediately nurtured it. They had me audition for a performing arts school when I was 12 and from there I went on to make performing arts apart of my everyday curriculum all the way through junior high and high school. My parents gave me the creative freedom to just “be me” and any opportunity for me to be great they fully supported and cheered me on. I believe that if I didn’t have parents who truly believed in my gifts I wouldn’t have the confidence to embrace my talents the way I do.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Acting has always been my first love. I used to perform for church plays and after being accepted into the performing arts school I did countless plays, musicals, and variety shows. My teachers would even have me come to the front of the class to do impressions of them (because my classmates begged them to let me). Over the years I’ve been blessed to be able to be on some very notable sets including BMF, Tyler Perry’s “Sistas” and “The Oval”, “Creed 3”, and I’ve also starred in some amazing short films right here in Charlotte produced by Eugene Bennett and also Lauren Stanton. I’ve always written screenplays and had ideas and for the past 4 years I’ve used my social media as an outlet to create funny and engaging content. I’ve decided to finally put on my producer hat and bring my first short thriller film to life. The film is called “Out For Delivery” and I’m currently in the process of securing all the funding to kick off production. I’ve created a Kickstarter to crowdfund and get support for my first film and would be truly grateful to anyone who checks it out! I want to be amongst the new wave of women storytellers who are taking up space in the film world.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three qualities that have been most impactful on my journey were resilience, humility, and strong faith. This industry is not for the weak. There is more rejection than there is success. Being resilient and pushing through even when you feel like giving up is such a huge deal. People give up right before the big “pay off” sometimes and they don’t even realize it. Remaining HUMBLE is so important. I’ve been a lead in a film and I’ve been an extra who rarely got seen in a film. I came to set with the same exact attitude each time. The way you treat everyone you encounter will be remembered more than your performance. Talent will only get you so far. Your grace and positive attitude is what leaves a lasting mark. My faith is everything. I pray every single morning over my life and those I love. I thank God for bringing me through moments I didn’t understand. I pray even when I’m frustrated and upset. Prayer is my peace. I can’t go one day without it. Knowing that God has my path already laid out for me and that He is guiding each of my steps is what makes me so happy to get up everyday and try to do my best.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
I’m going to be honest when I’m feeling overwhelmed sometimes I have to just cry. I need to release that built up anxiety and pressure. I’m not ashamed to say that because it’s not always “sad” tears sometimes it’s literally just releasing all of the negativity that may have built up that day. And I always pray immediately after and I feel so much better! I talk to my mom a lot when I’m frustrated or overwhelmed too. She’s like my best friend and it’s always a no judgement zone with her. She’s a great person to just vent to. I advise anyone who feels overwhelmed to just let it out whether you have to cry, write, dance, scream, paint, exercise, throw a ball…do something to release it. Something safe and meaningful to you. Follow that with a prayer and I think you’ll feel much better.
