We were lucky to catch up with Tiffany Henderson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tiffany, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I found my purpose in professional home organizing through my own experience as a busy mom trying to maintain a peaceful, less chaotic home for my family. Prior to finding my purpose, I felt overwhelmed with clutter in my home – items were constantly missing, my home always took forever to tidy, and I always felt like I was playing catch-up. Being a stay-at-home mom changed things for me because I was living in the home each day instead of going to work and “forgetting” about the chaos. I went on a journey to simplify and create systems that worked for my family – which ended up being life-changing.
That’s when I decided I wanted to help other busy, overwhelmed moms take back control of their homes through decluttering and organizing tailored to their specific family needs.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
At Southern Sort, I know that life as a mom gets busy. Between raising kids – running them from one activity to the next, managing school schedules, caring for aging parents, volunteering, and dealing with the never-ending influx of stuff, our homes often take a back seat and become places of chaos instead of calm.
I specialize in helping busy women declutter and create organized systems so their home is easy to maintain. Instead of spending countless hours on tidying their homes, busy families can get back to enjoying life with Southern Sort’s compassionate organizing services.
What truly excites me most about professional organizing is the impact it has on the women I serve. When a home is organized, stress decreases, morning routines are smoother, and families can enjoy their time together.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three qualities that have been the most impactful to my journey would have to be empathy, problem-solving, and teaching/coaching. Empathy and compassion are vital when working with my clients. I’ve been in their shoes – I know what it feels like to be embarrassed to open my front door. Through my own personal experience, I have learned how to approach my clients with compassion and love, so they do not feel judged in their home when they open the door for the first time.
Problem-solving goes back to my love of math – always loving the thrill of solving a problem. Each client project is so unique so having that skill has really helped me to develop creative, personalized solutions for my clients.
Teaching and coaching clients along the way comes from my experience with teaching middle school students. Decluttering and organizing is something that can be taught, so I always want to be available to teach with patience and kindness for clients willing to learn how to declutter and organize on their own.
For those early in your journey, keep practicing. Learn how to be empathic to others, read books that relate to how you are want to grow in your personal or professional life, and always challenge yourself to solve difficult problems – even when they seem impossible.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
Goodness I have read so many, but recently the most impactful book, that has truly helped me grow as a business owner and professional organizer is Unreasonable Hospitality by Will Guidara. Although his book is based around the restaurant industry, he provides invaluable insight on how we should go above and beyond for our clients. Professional organizing isn’t just a job, it’s a way to truly be of service to the Golden Isles community. In his book, he teaches you to be unreasonable in how you serve clients, exceeding the expectations of the client and that is something we can all take away from the book whether we are a service-based industry or a leader in the community.
