Meet Tiffany Horton

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tiffany Horton a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Tiffany, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

I get my resilience from my parents. Early on they taught me to never let anything or anyone stop you from achieving your goals. My mother is one of the greatest examples of resilience that I know personally. When I was in high school she went back to school to get her degree. I know that was very hard for her to do. Every morning she would get up, drop my sister and I off at school and then go to work, cook dinner for us, go to class in the evenings, come home to make sure we were in the bed, stay up late studying or writing papers, and then get in the bed for a few hours of sleep only to do it all over again the next day. I know she was beyond tired on most days and I know there were several days where she felt like giving up but she didn’t. She knew the reward was greater than the frustration she was feeling at the moment. Seeing her achieve her goals was one of the reasons I decided to start my own business. Starting my own business has not been easy and there have been days where I’ve felt like giving up but I know the reward is greater than the doubt, fear and frustration I have felt.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am the owner and creator of a home-based donut shop called House Of Donuts, LLC. I make traditional fried donuts but I also make unique and custom flavored donuts as well. I am always thinking of and looking for new and unique creations to try and introduce to my clients. I am currently working on a healthier protein donut in different flavors, so there will be more to come in the next few weeks. I am also starting to put together some fall items for my traditional fried and unique donuts.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Three qualities that were the most impactful to me during this journey has been my determination, my dedication, and my uniqueness. The day I decided to start my business I was determined to create something I would be proud of and something that others would love to enjoy as much as I loved creating it. My dedication has also carried me a lot on this journey. There have been bad days and days filled with obstacles, but on those days I tell myself to remember my why and remember that with every bad day comes an even brighter good day. If there is one thing I could say to someone who is in the early stages of starting a business I would say on your bad days remember your why. Remember why you started your business. Remember how you wanted to use your business to make an impactful difference in the world.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

If there are any small business owners who have coffee shops or who sell coffee or tea and they think their products would pair well with donuts, I would love to partner or collaborate with them. I can be reached via email at houseofdonuts@houseofdonutsllc.com or via phone at 214-247-6688.
