We recently connected with Tiffany Nufio and have shared our conversation below.
Tiffany, we are so appreciative of you taking the time to open up about the extremely important, albeit personal, topic of mental health. Can you talk to us about your journey and how you were able to overcome the challenges related to mental issues? For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.
My mental health is essential to how I live my life. I will say that I overcome the many faces that mental health has on a daily basis by knowing I’m stronger than my illness. Being a full time business owner is rewarding but has its stressors, especially when I have to juggle my career and family life, while trying to not neglect myself. In 2018 I started Brown Sugar Beauty By Tiffany as a way to express gratitude to myself while also trying to help others pour into themselves. This was a pivotal time for my growth mentally, I took a step back from being in the dark and used my craft to find happiness. Although this became a positive outlet for me, it didn’t slap a bandaid on my mental health. I’ve learned to not let my plate pile up when I’m overwhelmed, grieving, or when I simply just need rest. I acknowledge when I need a break mentally, and allow a few days off to decompress.
Talking with trusted friends and family, especially those who may have dealt or are dealing with mental health issues has been extremely helpful. Telling each other “You’re doing a great job.” goes a very long way.
I have many outlets that help me stay balanced, from prayer to yoga, going out in nature, journaling, affirmation cards, music, even something as simple as taking a nap.
The family I created brings me the biggest joy, from my supportive husband to my children who also pour their energy into me when I’m not feeling like myself. The warmth in my household provides a safe space for everyone.
Just recently I began to have a meltdown because I felt like “something was missing” but for the life of me once I sat down alone I could not say what I was lacking. I sat in silence and started listing everything that I was grateful for and everything that I have accomplished. The tears stopped and my higher self said “Girl please! You are exactly where you need to be, you’re doing a great job.” It’s important to give yourself flowers and gratitude, and most importantly surround yourself in spaces that bring only positive energy to you.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a Licensed Esthetician currently servicing the Las Vegas area and my brand. Brown Sugar Beauty By Tiffany, is a natural skincare business curated to providing quality products with only essential ingredients. All products I create are handcrafted by me; artisan soap, body butter, body scrubs, oils, bath salts. All products are vegan friendly for women, men and children. Beauty and skincare has been a passion of mine for over 10 years, it feels great to be in my element and helping others feel confident in their skin. I provide facial treatments as well as body waxing at my spa suite centrally located in Northwest Medical District. This year I will be hosting my very own soap making event which I am extremely excited about and plan to make this event quarterly.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
My resilience, empathy, and integrity have been most impactful I would say in my journey. The advice I have for anyone who may be starting their journey as a business owner, be true to yourself and follow what you believe in. Remember why you are doing what you’re doing and stand firm on your beliefs. It is okay to be inspired by others, but never lose sight of your vision based on what someone else may be working on.
How would you describe your ideal client?
This is such a trick question because all of my clients have many characteristics! I’m looking to service anyone who loves clean skincare all the way to those who know their skin needs some TLC and trust me enough to help them. I have serviced clients who come in just for a facial because they need some self care, and I have clients who routinely see me because they are either address skin concerns like hyperpigmentation, acne, fine lines, etc, and those who want to upkeep their skin with a professional cleanse.
I yearn to continue building client relationships with those who need corrective treatments and allow me to establish a relationship with their skin.
Skincare is an everlasting investment that can’t be “fixed” with just one treatment. I’m the esthetician that you can rely on in the treatment room and who can give you quality products in your household.
