Meet Tilda Boyd

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tilda Boyd a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Tilda, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
Life is busy and it’s hard to find time and energy to put into the things you love. After 34 years of life, I’ve learned that if I don’t respect my creative side and tend to it, my life starts to feel off. Over the past few years, I’ve honored this part of myself- the part of myself that firmly believes that I must respect my creative spirit in order to be happy. If I don’t respect this, everything in my life tends to fall apart. I keep my creativity alive by avoiding ruts, working on a variety of different types of projects, take breaks from my phone, getting enough sleep, and having a growth mindset. If I get stuck doing the same things every day in the same way, my brain doesn’t get much new to work with. It’s great to travel to distant lands, but it’s also possible to stimulate your brain closer to home. I have to be open and willing to keep learning new things. There are many other courses, books, and experiences that can help myself to keep learning. Lifelong learning keeps your mind active and adds to your confidence. I always remind myself that I will never be the only one with an idea. Sometimes the best thoughts will come to me when I’m outside in nature. Nature can be super inspiring. It also heals the mind and reduces my anxiety. If all the creative minds came together to move past the shadow of fear anything in is possible in this world.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a professional, actress, model, and fashion designer. I started acting and modeling around the age of 17 and took up fashion design around the age of 29. When I act, I explore the inner workings of their characters to understand them better. Acting helps increase my memorization with different tricks that I practice with. It also offers the opportunity to explore other ways of thinking and being that do not come naturally to me. It broadens my mind and allows me to explore different avenues. It has made me a better person, a better friend because I’m more aware of my mind, my body, and more in touch with my emotions. With acting and modeling it has allowed me to have more confidence in myself. I came across fashion design January of 2018. I taught myself how to sew from watching numerous YouTube videos. Being a designer has allowed me to create unique clothing, fashion trends, fabrics, and designs that sets me apart from other designers. I want to be able to inspire the world and the next generation after me. Be you all is taken.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Fashion design and acting are two skills that a person can have and feel free doing it. There’s no limitations. There’s no right or wrong way to design a piece of clothing or how act in a movie. You create your own rules. By working with a team, I am exposed to many ideas throughout the day. It can be the way colors mesh together, or the way a building or object is shaped that gives me different ideas and concepts for clothing I design. I had to visualize myself achieving everything I want in my life. I had to manifest everything. I had to keep saying to myself, “never give up no matter what, you got this.” The advice I have for people early in their journey are mental growth, social growth, spiritual growth, emotional growth, and physical growth. If all 5 of these align then you can achieve and accomplish anything is this world. If you have a healthy strong mindset, it will lead to increase productivity. Spiritual growth can help manage stress and build confidence in your abilities. Always have communication with others. Communication is the key to having an amazing life and journey. Failure is a natural part of the process and how you respond to setbacks will determine your success. Persevering through challenges can build resilience and develop important skills. The mindset of never giving up can increase your chances of achieving success and creating a fulfilling career.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was taught me invaluable life lessons about work, marriage, parenting, relationships, and life. My parents taught me about honesty. That I should always be honest and never to keep any secret from them. They taught me about cleanliness, to also do my things neatly and in an organized manner. And I should not cheat people I should love and respect people no matter their differences. They taught me to appreciate the little things in life because that is what matters the most. To be humble and open to criticism and to always laugh everyday. They always told me laughter is always good for your body and soul and to never take life too serious. They would anything is possible if you put your mind to it. If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
